    Seagate STEA4000400 reviews

4TB Expansion Portable USB 3.0 External Hard Drive is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 29.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Actually a 3.63TB Drive Great drive so far and I've always used Seagate drives for photography. Not sure when a 3.63TB drive became classified as a 4TB drive though. The actual capacity right out of the box with nothing on it is 3.63TB, so just know that you're getting shorted almost a half a TB. That's a little dissapointing when capacity is my primary reason for upgrading to a new drive. Not B&H's fault, but it would be nice to see that info under the specs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome drive I purchased this drive to backup all my data. With 4tb of space, I was able to fit all of my data so everything is backed up and stored in a safe location. I recommend you back up your data too. This drive is small, slick looking and worked great. While I did get decent transfer speeds with the USB 3 connection, I did not get full USB 3.0 speeds, so it did not perform at true USB 3.0 expected speed and for that reason, I cannot give it 5 stars. Worked great with Windows 10. Great price from B&H and awesome free shipping, you cannot beat this deal! I purchased another one to backup my imac.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great price Works well, just bear in mind that it's 4tb your travelling with worth of information. I bought this for my home backup, and use a 2tb or less for travelling

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ok Good storage space for the money, but copying is extremely slow. I am getting 4.98 MB/Sec tansfer rate.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Don't waste your money Not happy with this drive. When it is recognized by my computer (which is rare) it's very slow-48-50MB/second. Often in the middle of a long download it will stop writing and send various error messages. I've been in contact with Seagate and, to their credit, they sent me a replacement. It's just as bad. I have tried both with various computers and have the same problems on all of them. I have 2 smaller WD brand drives that work fine. I'm tired of fooling with it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unusable Speeds I like Seagate products normally and I thought 4tb for the price would be a great value however when the transfer speeds are reduced to 1-2 mb this drive is worthless too me. The only thing I would use this drive for is a back up and hope that I would never ever have to restore from this drive. This is just a paperweight.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Csn't Get It To Work Who would believe that an external drive would be anything other than a plug-and-play? Well, this drive not only could not take files copied from my other drive, but it locked up my computer when I tried to restart. I had to remove the drive and restore the computer to salvage get it running again. Even after formatting the drive multiple times at the suggestion of Seagate's tech support, it still would not take the transfer from my other drives. It would stop after several minutes and say that the drive needed to be formatted. Seagate's tech support was prompt, and they tried to be helpful, but all I have after a week is a black brick that I am scared to reconnect to my computer. The Seagate SeaTools program diagnostic software that their tech support suggested wouldn't even recognize the drive in order to diagnose it. My previous experience with Seagate back-up drives has been good, which is the reason I opted for this new 4TB version.
