    Digital Watchdog VMAX A1 reviews

VMAX A1 Series 16-Channel 1080p Analog HD DVR with 2TB HDD is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Definitely would buy another DW DVR This is an amazing DVR that is easy to setup and easy to operate. We had a Digital Watchdog 960H Flex before this one and it was also a very good dvr. This one, however, you can zoom in on pre-recorded video.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It does the job, but still on the fence I purchased this DVR as a replacement to my night DVR that had a hard drive failure and would not work anymore. I did a lot of research on DVR's and decided that this would be a good replacement. The hardware that this has is what sold me. Good quality unit, hard drive (WD Purple), fan mounted inside exterior wall, good ventilation, good design. Hook up was very easy, plug and play. The exception was that my TV would not support the output format with HDMI cable. I had to hook up PC cable to get video and then try to find the output resolution that the HDMI input would support. The software on this unit almost made me send the unit back and purchase something else. I downloaded and printed the user manual. Between the manual and the onscreen menu, I attempted to setup the DVR to my network so I could access it via phone app and computer. This is where the difficulties made me pull my hair out. My Night Owl was so mush easier. On it I just scanned the QR code from my phone and the connection was done, 30 seconds and I could see my cameras on my phone. With the DW Vmax, I spent about 6 hours over 3 nights and called in my go to IT expert. Another 3 hours with him and we finally got it figured out. We had to find the internet IP address along with lots of other settings that the user manual did not clearly explain. This unit does have a feature to Email notifications of motion detection from cameras, along with notifications regarding the health of the DVR itself, such as video loss, hard drive full, etc. I was very disappointed in the motion detected Email notification. All it does is send an email stating motion detected on camera #x. The problem is that I would get an email with motion detected about 100 or more times. In comparison, my old Night Owl system would send a jpeg picture of the motion that I could look at and see if I needed to review the footage. Not completely happy, but like I said it does do the job. Software could be more user friendly.
