B+W 66-070222 overview

  • 1Description

The B+W 58mm UV Haze MRC 010M Filter is a general use, clear filter designed to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight. Aside from the reduction of unwanted blue casts, no additional coloration or contrast is created, and adjustments to exposure are not required while using this filter. To prevent internal ghosting and reflections while providing over 99.8% light transmission, each glass surface includes eight layers of anti-reflection coating. This Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) also offers greater protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters.

B+W filters are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. This filter features an F-Pro brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

This UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Such filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your front lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.

58mm UV Haze MRC 010M Filter is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 395.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't Waste Money - Buy B+W Bought this for my Canon 100mm Macro, mostly for protection when shooting outdoors. Very useful this past weekend, shooting portraits on the beach, windy, sand blowing, salt-water spray...etc. For indoor macro shots I remove it - no sense having extra glass. But when the elements can potentially soil and damage the objective lens, I always choose B+W filters. Solid and well-made, with a finely-machined brass ring for easy threading. Not a trace of image degradation (I've tested with and without filter). For my UV filters, I stick with B+W. I've tried the $15 filters and they are terrible, worse than using nothing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Go to filter All my lenses have B+W filters and this particular filter is my go to model. If there is a vignetting concern with a particular lens I'll step up to the XS-PRO model; otherwise, MRC F-PRO (UV or Clear - whichever is the better deal at the time). Filter binding to the lens threads has never happened on any of my lenses with brass rings but it has with aluminum - another plus for this filter. Hoya HD is a solid alternative and has the same easiness to clean as do the B+W MRC filters; however, no brass ring, so no Hoya for me. If you rarely, if ever, take off your filter then an argument could be made for the Hoya HD despite it's aluminum ring.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very solid, worth the price I took the plunge and (based on forums' comments) bought 3 of these: 37, 46 and 58mm for each of my M4/3 lenses. The moment I took them out of the box I realized it was a money well spent. Very solid feeling brass ring. Construction as thin as possible, yet as wide and solid as needed for operating. Has thread on the outside and the lens-cap snaps on it without problems. I intend to keep it on the lens at all times as a protector, so I did some shooting test: in low light at home, took same distance ant setting pictures to compare the exposure settings in automatic regime. No change with or without the filter - thus the filter doesn't affect the brightness of the lens at all or the effect is negligible. Very happy, highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't Get Better Protection What sold me on B+W MRC filters was a side-by-side comparison. When holding this filter up next to any other UV filter you can see, B+W is clearer and cleaner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as advertised I use this UV filter on Canon 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS lens. Resulting images are not at all affected by this filter.I chose this over Hoya, as it's easier to clean and lesslikely to get scratched. I wish it were a little cheaper. Expertise: Amateur

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Needed for better landscapes Recently I was in northern Scotland using my Pentax 645 for landscapes. The haze over the distant mountains was quite apparent and limited the clarity of the view of the horizon. The UV haze filter reduced the haze considerably and improved the overall image quality. The right filter makes great improvements to the final image and is well worth the cost.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Leave this on your lens Don't put a cheap little UV filter on your lens. Good optical coatings reduce flare and fuzz and are tough and durable. I've had coatings that got permanently smudgy looking from cleaning with a microfiber cloth. In addition to good coating, this filter has well machined, smooth turning threads, and an overall high quality feel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Optically these are second to none - the most important consideration. Others may be good also, but I buy B&W filters because of their precision brass rings which have never jammed on me.
