B+W UV Haze MRC Filter Reviews

Great Filters

I am one of those that believe having a filter on the lens simply for protection is a good idea. The UV is a good choice for me since I still shoot film once in a while. I have B+W on all of my lenses. I've never had an issue with them. Polarizing filters included. Their quality is excellent. They truly are precision instruments.

I ordered the clear one and my sister got the haze one. I did not order the Haze one because I thought that it would effect the clarity of my photos. I ended up sending back the clear and getting this one because I liked the clarity of my photos when using this filter. Highly would recommend this one. Picture are totally clear and

Funny you should ask....

I would love to review this filter, it I could only get my hands on the lens I bought it for. Sadly the Olympus 150-400mm Pro Lens remains on backorder and it may be up to a year before I can get it. Ask me then!!

I have B+W filters on all of my lenses. I have this filter on the newer ones. For me it just makes sense to protect my expensive lenses from knocks and weather with a (relatively) inexpensive filter. With B+W I've never seen a downside optically.

question

Is this product is a genuine b+w production? And how to know if I get the genuine one instead of a fake one?
Asked by: Anonymous
This would be a genuine B+W filter and B&H is an authorized dealer of Schneider products (which is the parent company of B+W). The filters would have a cardboard box along with a frosted plastic case on the inside.

question

I have this filter for my canon 70-200L II lens. But I have wondered about something...If you have this filter, does it also work as a polorizer? Is there still a need for a polorizer as well ,or do the two filters have entirely different functions/effects. I use mine also as a lens protector (on my lens at all times). Thanks in advance for your feedback!

The B+W 77mm UV Haze MRC 010M Filter is simply a UV protection filter. It is not a polarizer. UV filters and polarizer filters have totally different usages. A UV filter filters out ultraviolet light from your image, and in some cases, may remove atmospheric haze. Most people simply use them as protection filters as they are clear to our eyes and have minimum effect to images outdoors, and no effect indoors (as there is no UV light indoors). Polarizer filters are designed to remove glare and reflections from non-metallic items, such as water, glass, foliage, or other items. By removing glare and reflections, it allows you to see more of the subjects' saturation and contrast that was hidden by the glare/reflection. Also, depending on your position to the sun, it can deepen the blue color in the sky on bright blue days. It works similarly to polarized sunglasses, and would be used in the same situations (i.e., you would not normally use a polarizer indoors, as it removes light and darkens the scene, and would cause you to use slower shutter speeds or need more light for indoor images.) UV filters and polarizer filters have different designs and cannot be used interchangeably. As polarizer filters remove light and are not often used indoors, they are not recommended to be used as protection filters.

Any problems attaching the lens hood for a NIKON 85MM 1.8 G to this filter?
Asked by: Harvey
I don't own a Nikon 85mm 1.8 G so I would not know from a personal experience. However, I don't see why it wouldn't as long as the diameter is 67mm.

What's the difference between this filter (B+W 95mm UV Haze MRC 010M Filter ) and the B+W 95mm UV Haze SC 010 Filter?
Asked by: Chester
Sorry I can't be more helpful but I don't know the difference. I can say I'm happy with the B+W filter I bought. I would ask a B&H salesperson. They are always accommodating.

Is this filter a "digital" filter which maximizes the light transmission to the sensor?
Asked by: Harvey
In a literal sense of "maximization", yes. (no exposure compensation necessary) I use these on my lenses for protection and for cutting out the bluish "haze" when taking film or digital pictures.
