B+W filters are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. This filter features an F-Pro brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

This UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Such filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your front lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.

Better than a Regular UV

I got this for free with the lens I bought, so I primarily use it as a protector instead of a regular UV when I'm not using a pro-mist or a ND. It's well built and is especially great for outdoor shots.

Good investment

Sure, not the cheapest filter, but there are more expensive ones as well. It shares the qualities of the more expensive ones - finely-machined metal ring that screws into the lens perfectly and high-quality multi-coated glass that does not cause any noticeable degradation of image quality. I've had issues with cheaper filters with aluminum mounts cross-threading, but never with this B+W line. Filters like this may well outlast your camera lens (I've had some for 20+ years), so might as well get a good one from the start.

Rattles

It seems that the glass is cut in such a way as to cause the filter to "rattle". (Glass cut too small for the filter ring). I kept it as I didn't feel that it would have an effect in real world use as there were no gaps visible, but probably should have sent it back. I have multiple B W filters and this is the only one that "rattles", of course it's also the largest one I own. For the price you would expect a tight fitting piece of glass.

Will this filter fit a Hasselblad Tele-Tessar 350mm C T* lens?
Asked by: James
Correction to my first response: It seems that the 93mm is to attach the filter to the lens hood, but the 86mm will attach directly on the lens. Therefore, yes you can use the 86mm filter. New link (see its note about the filter): https://lens-db.com/carl-zeiss-tele-tessar-t-350mm-f56-c/

Does this fit an 85mm Sigma 1.4 Art lens? This lens hasa 1.0mm filter thread pitch whereas most (at least smaller) filters have a 0.75mm pitch. Gobe 86mm filter does not fit, for example.

question

I have this filter for my canon 70-200L II lens. But I have wondered about something...If you have this filter, does it also work as a polorizer? Is there still a need for a polorizer as well ,or do the two filters have entirely different functions/effects. I use mine also as a lens protector (on my lens at all times). Thanks in advance for your feedback!

The B+W 77mm UV Haze MRC 010M Filter is simply a UV protection filter. It is not a polarizer. UV filters and polarizer filters have totally different usages. A UV filter filters out ultraviolet light from your image, and in some cases, may remove atmospheric haze. Most people simply use them as protection filters as they are clear to our eyes and have minimum effect to images outdoors, and no effect indoors (as there is no UV light indoors). Polarizer filters are designed to remove glare and reflections from non-metallic items, such as water, glass, foliage, or other items. By removing glare and reflections, it allows you to see more of the subjects' saturation and contrast that was hidden by the glare/reflection. Also, depending on your position to the sun, it can deepen the blue color in the sky on bright blue days. It works similarly to polarized sunglasses, and would be used in the same situations (i.e., you would not normally use a polarizer indoors, as it removes light and darkens the scene, and would cause you to use slower shutter speeds or need more light for indoor images.) UV filters and polarizer filters have different designs and cannot be used interchangeably. As polarizer filters remove light and are not often used indoors, they are not recommended to be used as protection filters.

Any problems attaching the lens hood for a NIKON 85MM 1.8 G to this filter?
Asked by: Harvey
I don't own a Nikon 85mm 1.8 G so I would not know from a personal experience. However, I don't see why it wouldn't as long as the diameter is 67mm.

Sorry I can't be more helpful but I don't know the difference. I can say I'm happy with the B+W filter I bought. I would ask a B&H salesperson. They are always accommodating.
