The Aironet 1852I Dual-Band 802.11ac Wave 2 Indoor Access Point from Cisco is suitable for small and medium-sized networks that need high-speed, secure, and reliable Wi-Fi connectivity for consumer devices, such as smartphones, tablets, and high-performance laptops. It features 4 x 4 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology with four spatial streams when operating in single-user MIMO mode and three spatial streams when operating in multiuser MIMO mode, offering data rate of up to 1.7 Gbps on the 5 GHz radio. It also enables a total aggregate dual-radio data rate of up to 2 Gbps, providing the necessary foundation for enterprise and service provider networks to stay ahead of the performance and bandwidth expectations and needs of their wireless users.
The Aironet 1852i Access Point is factory-shipped with a lightweight AP software image, based on the Control and Provisioning of Wireless Access Points (CAPWAP) protocol, for joining a wireless controller. However, it can manually be converted onsite to have the Cisco Mobility Express software image via the firmware available from the Cisco website. Post conversion, the access point can be configured to operate as a master AP (with integrated wireless controller functionality) in a Cisco Mobility Express network. Other APs, referred to as subordinate APs, associate themselves with this master AP. The master AP operates as a WLC to manage and control the subordinate APs, besides operating as an AP to serve clients.
