Ikelite 6843.72 Overview

Capture images and video at depths up to 200' beneath the surface with Ikelite's Underwater Housing with TTL Circuitry for the Sony Alpha a7 II, a7R II, or a7S II Digital Camera. Built-in, proprietary circuitry and an Ikelite bulkhead connector allow for TTL exposure with optional, external Ikelite DS Substrobes. Non-Ikelite strobes are compatible in manual mode, as well.

Ergonomic mechanical controls, including push-buttons, knurled knobs/dials, and a lever, afford access to all camera controls except for the AF/MF/AEL switch lever, control wheel, and diopter adjustment dial. Built for durability, the enclosure is made in the USA from corrosion-resistant polycarbonate, which is white on the front, sides, top, and bottom, but clear in the back to allow you to monitor the O-ring seal and maintain your view of the camera's rear controls. A compact aluminum mounting tray and quick-release handle are supplied to improve balance and offer an attachment point for an optional lighting arm.

The housing ships without a required lens port, and accepts various dome and flat ports for a broad array of zoom, macro, and wide-angle lenses. For full compatibility, see the Port Chart.

Construction Details
  • Features a depth rating of 200'
  • Close the two locking lid snaps at each side to see the o-ring form a watertight seal
  • Constructed by hand in USA from corrosion-resistant polycarbonate, which is white on the front, sides, top, and bottom, but clear in the back to allow you to monitor the O-ring seal and maintain view of camera's controls
  • Open-groove design suspends O-ring in natural position that is easier to maintain and more reliable than forcing it into a channel
  • Nearly neutral buoyancy in fresh water
  • Actual buoyancy varies depending on choice of lens and port
Strobe Connection and Operation
  • Housing provides direct electrical connection to camera's external hot shoe
  • Integrated circuitry and bulkhead sync cord connector enable TTL exposure with optional, external Ikelite DS Substrobes
  • Circuit features model-specific encoding, which has been fine-tuned to Sony's latest flash exposure protocol as of Nov 2015
  • Circuit powered by strobe, so there's no maintenance required and no batteries to change
  • Exposure compensation in TTL mode supported via camera's built-in control
  • SEA&SEA, INON, and Nikonos strobes may be used with the required sync cords in manual exposure modes only, but will still benefit from improved battery life and faster recycle times
  • Threaded bulkhead connector prevents accidental sync cord detachment during use
  • Bulkhead connection has been moved to top of housing to keep cords out of your way and reduce strain on ends
Strobe and Cord Compatibility

Controls and Handling
  • Ergonomic mechanical controls, including push-buttons, knurled knobs/dials, and a lever, afford access to all camera controls except for AF/MF/AEL switch lever, control wheel, and diopter adjustment dial
  • Controls are large and knurled or grooved for easy operation even when wearing diving gloves
  • Whenever possible, controls are located in same configuration as on camera to replicate muscle memory and familiarity you've developed with camera
  • Control symbols laser-engraved onto rear of housing won't peel off or fade with time
  • Compact aluminum mounting tray with 1/4"-20 mount and quick-release handle included
  • Tray offers improved balance and handle provides attachment point for optional lighting arm
  • Handle is curved slightly to fit natural curvature of hand, and is covered by soft molding for comfort
  • Tray/handle assembly can be detached easily by removing 2 screws
  • Optional second handle can be added for a second strobe or a video light
Lens Port System
  • Ships without required lens port
  • Accepts various dome and flat ports for a broad array of zoom, macro, and wide-angle lenses
  • For compatibility, see Port Chart linked above
  • Changing ports is quick and easy--just press on and snap the four locks closed
  • New soft-touch zoom knob puts a system of universal zoom gears right at your fingertips
  • Two sets of zoom gears included: one for use with most popular large-diameter zoom lenses, and a second for use with small-diameter zooms. Both are lightweight and easy to install with no modification to lens required
Camera Compatibility
  • Compatible only with Sony Alpha a7 II, a7R II, and a7S II
  • Although they are very similar, the Alpha a7, a7R, and a7S have slight differences in size and lens/control placement that make them incompatible with this housing
