Unless another is attached, I use UV filters on all my lenses with the expectation there is no perceivable degradation in image quality. Like other B+W filters I have, this works as expected. I recommend it.

It's a B W, what's not to like. Seriously, B W are the only filters I use. Great glass and brass fittings that are smooth and easy to get on and off. Haven't found one I like better for the price.

question

I have this filter for my canon 70-200L II lens. But I have wondered about something...If you have this filter, does it also work as a polorizer? Is there still a need for a polorizer as well ,or do the two filters have entirely different functions/effects. I use mine also as a lens protector (on my lens at all times). Thanks in advance for your feedback!

The B+W 77mm UV Haze MRC 010M Filter is simply a UV protection filter. It is not a polarizer. UV filters and polarizer filters have totally different usages. A UV filter filters out ultraviolet light from your image, and in some cases, may remove atmospheric haze. Most people simply use them as protection filters as they are clear to our eyes and have minimum effect to images outdoors, and no effect indoors (as there is no UV light indoors). Polarizer filters are designed to remove glare and reflections from non-metallic items, such as water, glass, foliage, or other items. By removing glare and reflections, it allows you to see more of the subjects' saturation and contrast that was hidden by the glare/reflection. Also, depending on your position to the sun, it can deepen the blue color in the sky on bright blue days. It works similarly to polarized sunglasses, and would be used in the same situations (i.e., you would not normally use a polarizer indoors, as it removes light and darkens the scene, and would cause you to use slower shutter speeds or need more light for indoor images.) UV filters and polarizer filters have different designs and cannot be used interchangeably. As polarizer filters remove light and are not often used indoors, they are not recommended to be used as protection filters.

Any problems attaching the lens hood for a NIKON 85MM 1.8 G to this filter?
Asked by: Harvey
I don't own a Nikon 85mm 1.8 G so I would not know from a personal experience. However, I don't see why it wouldn't as long as the diameter is 67mm.

Is this filter a "digital" filter which maximizes the light transmission to the sensor?
Asked by: Harvey
In a literal sense of "maximization", yes. (no exposure compensation necessary) I use these on my lenses for protection and for cutting out the bluish "haze" when taking film or digital pictures.

What are the differences between the B+W 77mm UV Haze MRC 010M Filter and the B+W 77mm UV-Haze #010 MRC Basic Filter besides the transmission factor and the packaging?
Asked by: Jon
I use the haze filter as more of a protection against the front elements getting destroyed. I had a hockey puck hit a 70-200 perfectly cracking the B&W filter as well as the front element of that lens. And man did I have a shiner! Good protection for the front elements
