The B+W 43mm Orange MRC 040M Filter can be used to increase image contrast when photographing using a film camera system with black-and-white film installed.

This filter's effect corresponds to that of a Wratten 16 filter. Wavelengths of visible light that are apparent as green, blue, and violet colors to the human eye are suppressed, while visible light associated with yellow, orange, and red colors are able to more easily pass though the B+W 43mm Orange MRC 040M Filter and into the lens it is mounted in front of. When photographing with this filter along with black-and-white film, green, blue, and violet-colored subjects within a scene are reproduced in dark shades of grey than if a filter was not used. Simultaneously, yellow, orange, and red subjects are rendered in light shades of grey.

When applied to black-and-white photography, the increased contrast provided by the B+W 43mm Orange MRC 040M Filter can result in dark skies with very defined clouds. Shades of green among foliage can be much more differentiated relative to skin tones, while the appearance of freckles and skin blemishes is reduced. Additionally, this filter can also minimize the presence of haze caused by the bluish cast of daylight.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes eight layers of anti-reflection coating. This Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) also offers greater protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters. B+W filters are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity. This filter features an F-Pro brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Must Have in B&W Film This really is a fantastic filter and as the title states, a must have. I keep this on my Voigtlander Bessa with the 40/1.4 at all times. More than anything, it cuts through haze, gives a bit more contrast and really whitens the whites. Great overall filter from street, landscape to portraits photography. Additionally, it acts as an ND filter with two extras stops in EV. Particularly helpful if you're shooting 100 speed film or working with a Leica and it's 1/1000th top shutter speed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice filter I usually just shoot in RAW, however if you do you will have a strong, overall orange/yellow color on the entire image. It's easily removed in processing, and you will still benefit from the added contrast. I try to manipulate images as little as possible, because I think everytime you make a change you degrade the image. The 2 attached images were taken as jpegs and are only to show the difference with/without the filter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lost in translation! Don't let the yellow in the name mislead you, this is the Orange filter that is regularly used for black and white film to knock down the sky and only loose one stop instead of three with a Red #25. Its actually closer to a stop and a third but great. Multicoating is great, perfect on the Leica with the Voightlander 35mm 1.4 Notkon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High Quality I bought these so I could make my own filters for my Mamiya RZ67 Fish Eye Lens. Choose these because I wanted the higher quality.
