B+W 66-011363 overview

  • 1Description

The B+W 72mm MRC 102M Solid Neutral Density 0.6 Filter is an ND filter with a 4x filter factor that provides a 2-stop exposure reduction. Its 0.6 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes eight layers of anti-reflection coating. This Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) also offers greater protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters. B+W filters are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity. This filter features an F-Pro brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

    B+W 66-011363 reviews

72mm MRC 102M Solid Neutral Density 0.6 Filter (2 Stop) is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 22.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fine Filter It does what it's supposed to by being a sunglass for your lens. B&H says it's only a Multi Coated (MC) filter, but I received a Multi Resistant Coated (MRC) filter. They're more rugged and the glass part of the filter is actually harder than regular glass... so more resistant towards scratches. I use the filter itself when it's bright outside and I want to use a f/1.4 or f/1.2 glass to get the thin depth of field they can produce. Sometimes, it may be too bright outside, so I cannot get a fast enough shutter speed to avoid an overexposed picture. That's what a Neutral Density filter is for. Check the ND number to see which filter you need.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shallow DOF Controlled I use this with my Canon 50mm f1.2 to shoot at anytime of the day when the sun is out, you can now be creative at F1.2 without worries of clips. Very solid filter B+W is known for, its all I use. It's brass finish will not jam or stick on your lens, the filter thread are deep to hold your lens cap sturdy. This filter actually improves the quality of your images wide open, it's very clean and clear. I also use a pro glass form Lee for my 1.2 but now I can keep that for when I am doing landscape, this one will not fall off and can take the large crowds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best filter! I was debating between buying a 2 stop vs. 3 stop filter and was glad to picked 2 stop. The viewfinder was darker with this filter on so with a 3 stop would have been harder to see through. 2 stop was spot on! Very happy with the purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just What The Doctor Ordered I bought the B+W 72mm MRC 102M Solid Neutral Density 0.6 Filter to use on my recently purchased 50mm f/1.2L lens. I live on the coast of NW Florida and shoot a lot on bright sunny days. I quickly found that I had to use very fast shutter speeds when using f/1.2 to f/2.8 apertures. The 0.6 solid neutral density filter was just what the doctor ordered allowing me to shoot at much lower shutter speeds, but still fast enough to avoid camera shake blur. It's a quality filter and does not affect the image quality of the photos. My friends at B&H got the filter to me quickly as usual.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great filter I use this with my Canon 50mm f1.2 on bright sunny days and it works great. No more blown out highlights. It's able to reduce the light enough to be able to shoot wide open at f1.2 while the sun is out and about. Makes the colors of foliage and sky nice and rich by reducing glare.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good quality Excellent quality and threads are deep enough on front to accept another filter or a lens cap. Being able to thread on a polarizing filter and cut light by a 3 f-stops when desired is a plus and the reason I bought this style instead of a thin one for wide angle use. It will be used on a Nikon 105mm DC lens and I wanted to be able to shoot in full sun with the lens at f2.8f4. I consider B+W to be a good value in high quality filters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome tool for depth of field I bought this filter for my Canon HV40 in order to achieve a better depth of field on exterior footage and so far I have yet to find any serious flaws with this filter while using it on a Raynox 6600 lens. While shooting in 24f cinemode, almost instantly I noticed a much better range and sense of clarity with this filter attached than I had with the stand alone Raynox/HV40 setup. The only advice I have is not to hold it too close to the lens otherwise you will see a very small dot directly in the center of the frame. Other than that, awesome filter!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Essential with a fast lens A ND is needed when shooting with a f/1.4 lens outdoors. My Sony FS7 has internal ND filters, but even at the highest setting (1/64) there is too much light to shoot wide open on a sunny day. My whole point in getting a 1.4 was for shallow depth of field. Th 0.6 ND cuts the light down by two extra stops, which combined with my camera's internal ND, lets me shoot wide open.
