Davis & Sanford TR684C-36 overview

  • 1Description

For travel or candids, in the home or studio, the Traverse TR684C-36 Carbon Fiber Tripod with Dual Locking Ball Head from Davis and Sanford is a versatile, lightweight support for DSLR, mirrorless, and point and shoot cameras.

This kit includes a carbon fiber set of legs and a dual-action ball head, which combine to weigh only 4 lb while supporting up to 18 lb. The 4-section twist-lock legs extend to a maximum height of 68" and can be lowered to a minimum height of 9.5". Additionally, each leg can be set to 3 separate leg angles for balancing the tripod on uneven surfaces. The legs utilize rubber feet that feature integrated metal spikes for securing the legs in sand, dirt, or snow. One leg features a cushioned foam grip and the center column includes a ballast hook for stabilizing the tripod with additional weight.

The included ball head has a dual-action design that features one lock for ball movement and a separate lock for pan. The head also features degree markings along the panning axis and an Arca-type quick release, with one included plate. A bubble level has also been added to the ball head for increased positioning accuracy.

For ease of transport, the tripod folds down to 19" and includes a carrying case. A short center column is also included to help facilitate low angle and macro shooting.

    Davis & Sanford TR684C-36 reviews

Traverse TR684C-36 Carbon Fiber Tripod with Dual Locking Ball Head is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Supurb Tripod at an excellent price I received my tripod in time for snow and ice in NJ. The tripod functioned flawlessly, even soaked with freezing cold water...(much better than I did). The ball head is much different than I'm use to but locks everything up tightly. I'm using a Canon 5DRs with several lenses in both portrait & landscape mode. One of the few products I haven't found anything to complain about yet.I had to wait for it but I think it was time well spent.I ordered it directly from D&S because I needed it for a trip, which it didn't come for.. :((sorry B&H... I cheated on you..)

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice until it breaks I've had this tripod for about a year and it seemed nice for the price. That was, however, until the other day while out on a shoot I pulled a leg to extend it and the leg came all the way out. Apparently a piece broke that is required for repair. I have asked the company multiple times if they could provide a replacement piece so I can fix the tripod, but all my requests have gone unanswered. I would recommend to look elsewhere. I have a Benro tripod that once needed repair and Benro promptly sent me everything I need to not only repair the tripod, but to upgrade as well. Benro will get my business again, Davis & Sanford not so much.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Broken position lock The position lock broke as I see another reviewer mentioned as well. The design appears faulty to begin with, and I was always worried it wouldn't hold. Sure enough it broke after about a year of very light indoor use with less than 5 pounds on there. Thank goodness I didn't lose a camera in the process. This tripod felt poorly made from day one. Aside from the dangerous position lock design, extending the legs always sounded/felt coarse like there was sand in there. There wasn't any of course. They felt like that new out of the box. Additionally, the customer support from Tiffen (they own Davis & Sanford) is terrible. You get what you pay for. There is a very good reason this is one of the cheapest carbon fiber tripods. It isn't worth the risk of breaking all of your gear.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Position lock broke After a few times using it, one of the position lock broke. Otherwise, it's a decent tripod.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Buy This is NOT a high dollar carbon fiber tripod, but a sound value if you do not have $400-$700+ to spend on a carbon fiber tripod. The ball head is just average to below, so I replaced it but the tripod is a very good and light. The height is just what I was looking for.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good value for the money, but ....... For the price, this robust tripod is a great value providing you can put up with some issues. For starters, the short column was not included in the package. B&H was helpful in getting me to the right person at Tiffen to get a replacement, but it was a hassle. To get to Tiffen's customer service, I found that they never answer the email from from their website. You have to call the help line until you can actually get someone who will transfer you to the repair dept. Once there, they are very accommodating and try to solve your problem. Be sure to get the direct phone number. Next, one of what I'll call the compression shims inside the topmost locking collar on one of the legs split. Again, once I got through to them, Tiffen was helpful and is sending replacements for the cost of shipping ($8-$10). Next, I recently used the tripod in the rain. Now, the ball head freezes after being locked down then unlocked. It seems as if the internal mechanism is not releasing smoothly. So, you have to knock it a little to free it up. This is very annoying to say the least when you are trying to make a fine adjustment in the composition. Finally, the legs do not operate as smoothly as when they were new ... and the tripod hasn't been used that much. Sometimes a couple of the joints cinch up a little at near full extension. They work, but just not as smoothly as you'd like. All in all, this tripod is definitely worth the low price. I'm going to give it a little more time but am prepared to write it off if necessary and move on. Hope this helps you all. In passing, I'd like to say that B&H has been great to deal with.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is the best tripod for the money! I waited 10 months for this tripod to become available and it was worth the wait. It is a sturdy, lightweight compact carbon fiber tripod the even comes with a it's own very nice carrying case. I use it for location commercial, corporate and advertising photography and I couldn't be happier.
