The Vivitar 52mm 24-Piece Filter Kit includes six filter pouches, each of which contains four filters within separate pockets. Each filter in this kit fits a lens with 52mm front filter threads and can provide a number of commonly applied or select enhancements to your imagery. Additionally, these filters are constructed using an aluminum-alloy frame, which can help protect the front element of a lens from scratches, bumps, or impacts.

The filter pouches within this kit each feature a touch-tab closure to secure any filters within them for storage and transport.

Pouch 1

Vivitar 52mm Split Field Filter
The Vivitar 52mm Split Field Filter consists of a rotatable filter ring, half of which is occupied by a close-up lens with a +2.5 strength diopter for use in achieving macro-like results with a camera lens that has 52mm front filter threads. Close-up lenses are magnifiers that optically decrease the focal length of a camera lens they are placed on. This effect lessens the minimum focus distance between a camera lens and an object. Magnification can then be obtained while photographing an object by moving the front of the camera lens close to it.

The magnifying power of a close-up lens is indicated by its diopter strength. A close-up lens with a higher diopter number provides more relative magnification and can be combined with other close-up lenses to increase or fine-tune its effect.

The other half of the filter ring has no close-up lens element and is completely unobstructed, allowing a camera lens on which this filter is installed to project an image where half of the frame is unmagnified. This provides the potential to place subjects magnified by the Vivitar 52mm Split Field Filter within a discernible background, due to a close-up lens's secondary effect of only allowing a very shallow depth-of-field. The Vivitar 52mm Split Field Filter can be effectively applied by lining up its close-up lens and the subject to be magnified within half of the camera lens being used. By also using a narrow aperture, the resulting wide depth of field can be captured by the remainder of the camera lens that is not affected by the filter's close-up lens. A foreground subject can then be magnified and simultaneously, some focus can be maintained on a background that would otherwise be rendered completely out-of-focus.
Vivitar 52mm Sand Filter
The Vivitar 52mm Sand Filter is a concentric soft-focus filter that is designed to allow the center of an image to remain sharp, while the remainder of the frame is softened and diffused. It is constructed from glass and its aluminum-alloy filter ring includes 52mm front filter threads to allow for use with other filters.
Vivitar 52mm 6-Point Star Filter
The Vivitar 52mm 6-Point Star Filter is designed to be used perpendicular to a point light source such as the sun, a light bulb, or a candle. Within the filter's surface is a combination of fine, etched line types that help to create a starburst effect with 6 symmetric primary diffraction spikes that extend from the light source.

This filter is most effective for pictures where the light source used to generate the starburst effect is a highlight with a significant degree of contrast from the rest of the image. It is constructed from glass and features an aluminum-alloy filter ring that can be rotated in order to adjust the direction of the diffraction spikes and overall orientation of the starburst effect.
Vivitar 52mm Multi Image 3 Filter
The Vivitar 52mm Multi Image 3 Filter is a refraction filter that is designed to create three identical representations of a single scene within one frame that are arranged in a circular pattern. It is constructed from glass and features an rotatable aluminum-alloy filter ring that can be rotated in order to adjust the orientation of the three images created by this filter's refraction effect.

Pouch 2

Vivitar 52mm Duto Filter
The Vivitar 52mm Duto Filter utilizes etched, concentric lines that originate from the center of the filter to create a softening effect over an entire image. It is constructed from glass and its aluminum-alloy filter ring includes 52mm front filter threads to allow for use with other filters.
Vivitar 52mm Softone Filter
The Vivitar 52mm Softone Filter can be used to create a softening effect over an entire image. It is constructed from glass and its aluminum-alloy filter ring includes 52mm front filter threads to allow for use with other filters.
Vivitar 52mm Special Softone Filter
The Vivitar 52mm Special Softone Filter is a concentric soft-focus filter that is designed to diffuse the edges of the frame with increased softness toward the center of the image. It is constructed from glass and its aluminum-alloy filter ring includes 52mm front filter threads to allow for use with other filters.
Vivitar 52mm Diffuser Filter
The Vivitar 52mm Diffuser Filter can be applied to purposely soften contrast and reduce sharpness. It is constructed from glass and its aluminum-alloy filter ring includes 52mm front filter threads to allow for use with other filters.

Pouch 3

Vivitar 52mm Sepia Filter
The Vivitar 52mm Sepia Filter can be used to a create a brown-tinted monochrome appearance over an entire image when photographing using a film camera system with color film installed.
Vivitar 52mm Red Filter
The Vivitar 52mm Red Filter can be used to increase image contrast when photographing using a film camera system with black-and-white film installed.

When using this filter, wavelengths of visible light that are apparent as violet and blue colors to the human eye are suppressed, while visible light associated with orange to red colors are able to more easily pass though the Vivitar 52mm Red Filter and into the lens it is mounted on. When photographing with this filter along with black-and-white film, violet to blue-colored subjects within a scene are reproduced in significantly darker shades of grey than without a filter. Simultaneously, orange to red subjects are rendered in significantly lighter shades of grey than if a filter was not used.

When applied to black-and-white photography, the increased contrast provided by the Vivitar 52mm Red Filter can result in very dark skies with extremely defined clouds. Additionally, this filter can also minimize the presence of haze caused by the bluish cast of daylight.
Vivitar 52mm Blue Filter
The Vivitar 52mm Blue Filter can be used to decrease image contrast in select areas of an image while increasing tonal separation between blue-colored subjects versus yellow, orange, or red subjects when photographing using a film camera system with black-and-white film installed.

When using this filter, wavelengths of visible light that are apparent as yellow, orange, and red colors to the human eye are suppressed, while visible light associated with blue colors are able to more easily pass though the Vivitar 52mm Blue Filter and into the lens it is mounted on. When photographing with this filter along with black-and-white film, blue-colored subjects within a scene are reproduced in lighter shades of grey than without a filter. Simultaneously, yellow, orange, and red subjects are rendered in darker shades of grey than if a filter was not used.

When applied to black-and-white photography, the decreased contrast provided by the Vivitar 52mm Blue Filter can result in lightened skies as well as clouds with limited definition. Additionally, this filter can also increase the presence of haze or fog caused by the bluish cast of daylight.
Vivitar 52mm Green Filter
The Vivitar 52mm Green Filter can be used to increase tonal separation between green-colored subjects versus red-colored subjects when photographing using a film camera system with black-and-white film installed.

When using this filter, wavelengths of visible light that are apparent as red colors to the human eye are suppressed, while visible light associated with green colors are able to more easily pass though the Vivitar 52mm Green Filter and into the lens it is mounted on. When photographing with this filter along with black-and-white film, green-colored subjects within a scene are reproduced in lighter shades of grey than without a filter. Simultaneously, red-colored subjects are rendered in darker shades of grey than if a filter was not used.

Pouch 4

Vivitar 52mm Rainbow Filter
The Vivitar 52mm Rainbow Filter is designed to be used perpendicular to a point light source such as the sun, a light bulb, or a candle; and create a multicolored halo effect that surrounds the light source. This filter is most effective for pictures where the light source used to generate the halo effect is a highlight with a significant degree of contrast from the rest of the image.
Vivitar 52mm Double Exposure Filter
The Vivitar 52mm Double Exposure Filter consists of a rotatable filter ring, half of which is occupied by opaque plastic that is intended not to allow any light to pass through, while the other half of the filter ring is completely unobstructed. This provides the ability to create double or multiple exposures within one image using a film camera system that allows an exposure to be taken regardless if the frame is advanced, or with a digital camera system that includes a multiple-exposure mode.

The Vivitar 52mm Double Exposure Filter can be effectively applied by lining up its unobstructed half and the portion of the frame that is intended to appear in the final image, within half of the camera lens being used. After an image is taken where half of the frame is exposed and the other half remains unexposed due to the opaque plastic covering that half of the frame, the filter ring can be rotated to switch positions of the unobstructed and opaque halves of the filter ring. An image can then be created on the previously unexposed half of the frame while the image on the already exposed half of the frame is unaltered and preserved.
Vivitar 52mm Vari-Cross Filter
The Vivitar 52mm Vari-Cross Filter is designed to be used perpendicular to a point light source such as the sun, a light bulb, or a candle. Within the filter's surface is a combination of fine, etched line types that help to create a starburst effect diffraction spikes that extend from the light source.

Vivitar 52mm Center Image Soft Filter
The Vivitar 52mm Center Image Soft Filter is a concentric soft-focus filter that is designed to allow the center of an image to remain sharp, while the remainder of the frame is softened. It is constructed from glass and its aluminum-alloy filter ring includes 52mm front filter threads to allow for use with other filters.

Pouch 5

Vivitar 52mm Circular Polarizer Filter
The Vivitar 52mm Circular Polarizer Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.
Vivitar 52mm UV Filter
The Vivitar 52mm UV Filter is a general use, clear filter designed to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight. Aside from the reduction of unwanted blue casts, no additional coloration or contrast is created, and adjustments to exposure are not required while using this filter. This UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Such filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your front lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.
Vivitar 52mm Solid Neutral Density Filter
The Vivitar 52mm Solid Neutral Density Filter creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.
Vivitar 52mm FLD Fluorescent Filter for Daylight Film
The Vivitar 52mm FLD Fluorescent Filter for Daylight Film is a color correction filter that is designed to reduce green casts when shooting with daylight film under fluorescent lighting. It is constructed from glass and its aluminum-alloy filter ring includes 52mm front filter threads to allow for use with other filters.

Pouch 6

Vivitar 52mm +1, +2, +4, and +10 Close-up Lenses
The Vivitar 52mm +1, +2, +4, and +10 Close-up Lenses are each designed to offer macro-like results with a camera lens that has 52mm front filter threads. Close-up lenses are magnifiers that optically decrease the focal length of a camera lens it is placed on. This effect lessens the minimum focus distance between your camera lens and an object. Magnification can then be obtained while photographing an object by moving the front of the camera lens close to it.

The magnifying power of a close-up lens is indicated by its diopter strength. A close-up lens with a higher diopter number provides more relative magnification than one with a lower diopter number. This filter kit includes close-up lenses with diopter strengths of +1, +2, +4, and +10 where each close-up lens type's effect becomes progressively stronger with each diopter strength number increase. Dual threading permits you to combine these close-up lenses together to increase or fine-tune their effects as well as to pair them with filters.
