MT055CXPRO3 Carbon Fiber Tripod with XPRO Geared 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head Kit Overview

The MT055CXPRO3 Carbon Fiber Tripod with XPRO Geared 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head from Manfrotto is a 3-section support kit that includes the XPRO 3-way geared head. It has a load capacity of 8.8 lb and extends from 3.5" to 72". Its carbon fiber legs are secured by the Quick Power Locks. These updated flip locks increase the tripod's rigidity by 50% compared to its predecessor.

A redesigned center column has a "one finger" operation, and includes an Easy Link 3/8"-16 attachment for attaching accessories such as an LED light or a reflector via a compatible arm. The center column can be positioned horizontally, allowing for low-angle and macro photography. The upper disc where a tripod head is mounted has been redesigned as well, and now has a bull's eye bubble level that rotates 360° so you can locate it where you can see it. This allows you to level your camera on both the horizontal and vertical planes.

The included XPRO Geared 3-Way Head can hold up to 8.8 lb while weighing only 1.7 lb. It is made from a rigid technopolymer called Adapto that maintains strength without adding excess weight.

The head features micrometric knobs, allowing you to place your camera exactly where you need it. For larger adjustments the knobs can be pressed down against a lever, unlocking the movement of each axis individually. The head has a front tilt range of -20/+90°, a lateral tilt range of -90/+30°, and a 360° pan range. A 200PL quick release plate is included for fast and easy camera attachment and detachment.

Manfrotto XPRO 3-Way, Geared Pan-and-Tilt Head with 200PL-14 Quick Release Plate

This XPRO 3-Way, Geared Pan-and-Tilt Head from Manfrotto has a load capacity of 8.8 lb and can be attached to tripods or other support systems that feature a 3/8"-16 mount. It includes an integrated RC2 quick release cam lock and a 200PL-14 Quick Release Plate. RC2 compatible quick release plates such as the 200PL-14 can be removed from the head by pulling the cam lock's spring-loaded lever, which also allows the plate to be quickly reattached. The cam lock also features a safety catch to prevent the 200PL-14, or another compatible quick release plate from accidentally disconnecting.

Cameras, sport optics, or camcorders that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 mount can be connected to the quick release plate before securing it to the pan-and-tilt head. The head can be rotated 360°, tilted 90° forwards or 20° backwards, as well as 90° sideways for portrait orientation. Each of these three movements function independently of each other and have individual, spring-clamp controls. Squeezing each clamp's two handles allows the corresponding movement to be rapidly adjusted, and once the handles are released, the adjustment is locked into place. One handle on each clamp is also an integrated twist knob that allows incremental, geared adjustments, which help to ensure that any device mounted to this XPRO 3-Way, Geared Pan-and-Tilt Head is precisely positioned relative to the subject.

To further promote fast and repeatable device positioning, this XPRO 3-Way, Geared Pan-and-Tilt Head also includes dedicated angle scales for each movement that are designed for easy visibility.

Great tripod

A great tripod.

I am really loving this tripod, it handles my Canon 5D4 and the 500mmf/4 with ease and is very solid. The legs slide in and out very smoothly and the lock levers are easier to use being a bit biger than the ones on my old Manfrotto aluminum tripod and are much more secure no slipping. Time will tell if they remain that way since I haven't had a chance to use it much yet. Also a great value at the sale price.

Very nice quality.

This is a very nice tripod, so much so that I ordered my 1st for photography, and now a second to be dedicated for telescope use.

Very  stable.

Harder to snap legs in the cold and fingers can be pinched when opening cam locks but definitely a quality item.

Was great until it broke

I had two of these and they both broke in about 18 months. In each case, the leg just pulled out of the upper piece when extending it. The plastic around the rim of the lower part splintered, and I haven't been able to repair it (currently held together with gorilla tape for real estate shoots but it's not very adjustable for anything else). To be fair, I've extended and closed the legs probably 200+ times in that 18 months, but I don't feel like it should splinter like that (especially for a fairly expensive tripod). Going to NY next week - I'll look for something sturdier at B&H when I'm there.

Very good for price and weight

I bought an intentionally heavy, extra-tall tripod for video in situation where I needed to be able to get the camera above standing adult height. For more typical situations, this is SOOO much lighter and easier to maneuver and setup.

question

I have the optional Manfrotto 555B center column with adjustable half ball. I am able to remove the bottom adjustment knob so as to have a smooth bottom end of the center column. I know the new MT055CXPRO3 tripod legs has a single button feature to release the legs. Would I still be able to use my center column with these tripod legs? Even if I have to remove the adjustment knob to install it and them reinstall the knob again is ok with me. Even if it means I cannot use the one button feature. Thanks

The Manfrotto 555B center column with adjustable half ball will not work with that tripod. It works with these tripods, http://bhpho.to/1mruPHW

Asked by: Sergio
No you cant turn the center column upside-down. to get closer to the ground you can move the center column right up and turn it to 90 degrees and splay the legs to their widest point.

This head is only compatible with Manfrotto type plates. You would have to get an Arca Swiss compatible ball head. You can click the link below to view; https://bhpho.to/2RLwy35

How stable is it with a video fluid head when panned left/right. Some very light tripods have had a tendency to lift up on one of the legs as I panned with a dampened head?
Asked by: ROBERT
Not the best choice but workable . The more resistance you dial into the fluid head the worse it gets. I've resorted to using my left hand to press down on the legs as I panned with my right. In this situation heavier is better. you could add weight to the legs. Three Matthews Boa bags, one on each leg, would improve the performance noticeably.
