The Vintage 11 from JZ Microphones is not an emulation of an old stalwart mic—it's not JZ's take on a U 67, a U 87, or an AKG 414. Instead, this large-diaphragm condenser aims to provide a unique sonic signature, one with an emphasis in the low range (around 100 Hz) and a slight dip in the high-mids (around 4 kHz) for a vintage tone which, nevertheless, doesn't recall any specific models of yesteryear. With its cardioid polar pattern, it's suitable for live and studio environments, and it can be implemented on vocals, guitars, strings, pianos, drum overheads, or any other instrument on which you'd prefer to use a large-diaphragm condenser.
Offering Class-A discrete electronics, a transformerless design, and hand-soldered parts, the Vintage 11 also features a capsule fashioned in JZ's proprietary Golden-Drop method which aims to secure a more transparent, less distorted sound while reducing the weight of the overall diaphragm (thus enabling a quick transient response).
The Vintage 11 is affixed to its own mount, which sits securely in the microphone's "dead" spot (where the cardioid pattern rejects sound). The mount itself houses a removable adapter which allows the Vintage 11 to sit atop metric- or imperial-gauged threads. Also, the mic comes with a handsome wooden case.
