The 870 Utility is a multi-purpose cardioid studio-condenser microphone, while the 860 Ribbon delivers a warm sound with a robust low end. Rounding out the set is a pair of small-diaphragm capsule microphones ideal for drum overheads, acoustic guitars, pianos and strings for capturing extra details. All the microphones include shockmounts.

Designed for recording vocals in a studio setting, the 880 is a large-diaphragm condenser microphone from MXL. Its 32mm capsule picks up sound in a cardioid polar pattern, rendering this unit suitable for situations in which minimizing sound directly behind the mic is a must.
Also, it includes a high-isolation shockmount to mitigate any noise coming from the floor, such as foot stamps and leaning sounds.
MXL 870 Studio Condenser Microphone
Designed for recording vocals and instruments in a studio setting, the 870 is a large-diaphragm condenser microphone from MXL. Its capsule features an on-board FET preamp with a balanced out. Also, it includes a high-isolation shockmount to mitigate any noise coming from the floor, such as foot stamps and leaning sounds. A microfiber cloth is provided to clean the unit. Note that the microphone requires 48V phantom power, available in most preamps and recorders.
MXL 860 Side-Address Ribbon Microphone
Featuring a cast-metal body and a compact design, the 860 by MXL is a side-address ribbon microphone whose figure-8 polar pattern picks up both instrument and room sound, thereby achieving a more immersive sonic experience. Its aluminum ribbon transducer provides the warm characteristics of traditional ribbon microphones, but its ability to handle sound-pressure levels up to 130 dB renders the 860 suitable for loud instruments such as horns and electric guitars. For added convenience, its small size and included shockmount make placement a breeze.
The 840 Pair from MXL comprises two small-diaphragm condenser microphones suitable for stereo recording of drum sets, acoustic guitars, pianos, strings or anything else that requires stereo attention. A set of shockmounts is included with this pair of microphones, allowing you to utilize the 840s right out of the box. Fast transient response ensures accuracy of sonic impact, while a high SPL of 137 dB allows you to capture truly loud sound sources. Additionally, the microphones' cardioid polar pattern gives you the ability to truly hone in on the sonic sweet spot of any given sound.
