Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 overview

  • 1Description

Featuring a favorite lens for wedding, event, and sports photographers, the Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di USD Lens and Filter Kit from B&H pairs the Sony A mount lens with a 77mm UV Haze filter to guard the lens' front element from dust and scratches and also reduce unwanted haze and bluish casts from ultraviolet light.

The SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di USD lens is a versatile portrait-length-to-telephoto zoom characterized by its bright, constant f/2.8 maximum aperture. The optical design incorporates four low dispersion elements and one extra-low dispersion element to control chromatic aberrations and color fringing throughout the zoom range for notable clarity and apparent sharpness. Benefitting the optical attributes is an apt Ultrasonic Silent Drive motor that provides fast, near-silent autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override. Additionally, this lens also sports a moisture-resistant construction to support working in harsh environments.

    Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 reviews

SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di USD Zoom Lens for Sony is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great purchase, happy buyer! I recently switched systems from Canon to Sony and was looking for a great 70-200mm f/2.8 lens to replace the one I had with Canon (which by the way, is one of the sharpest and best lenses in Canon's line-up). After doing research for months, I finally pulled the trigger on the Tamron version for Sony and I wasn't disappointed at all! First off, the images are sharp wide open at f/2.8!! This is really important to me since as a wedding photographer, I need a fast lens especially in low-light. It also produces great images with eye pleasing contrast and nice bokeh. The build on the lens is very solid and it has a high quality feel. I use this on my a99 with a battery grip and it actually feels lighter than the Canon version, which over a 10-12 hour wedding day, is a lifesaver. If you're coming from Nikon or Canon to Sony and wondering why this lens doesn't have a VR or IS similar feature, please remember that Sony bodies have built in image-stabilization. The only critique I have about this lens is that the zoom ring is near the front lens element and the focus ring is closer to the camera body; coming from Canon this took a little getting used to but after awhile, it's not a big deal. I would highly recommend this lens to any Sony user looking for a 70-200mm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must have for indoor sports I bought this lens to go with my SLT-A65 to take pictures of kids at tumbling and trampoline competitions. Most of the venues are not well lit, so you really need a lens like this to get good action shots. Even though I'm a novice, I've been able to get some great shots since I got the Tamron.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Difference Maker I'm a parent with 3 kids in competitive sports and I am somewhere between a novice and a beginner in photography. This year I am one of 2 parent photographers for our high school soccer team. Afternoon games were easy with my other Tamron 70-300 f/4. But when they played night games, the f/4 struggled of course. So I purchased this one and I am blown away. First, its shipment weight was 6lbs. Second, the clarity, speed of focus, colors it can capture have opened an entirely new level of quality for me. I cannot recommend this enough as using this will take your photos beyond what you thought possible.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome 2.8 Zoom A-Mount Lens This zoom lens is ideal for my application used on a Sony A99 Mark 2. This lens installed on the A-Mount perfectly and the ultra silent drive (USD) focussing was quick and accurate. The zoom glass moves completely internally so the length of the lens does not grow longer when using it. Very impressed with the bokeh produced with this lens. To me this lens was a very affordable alternative to the Sony equivalent 2.8 version zoom lens. The quality and workmanship of this Tamron was excellent and I expect it will last a long time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lens review Fast lens, quick AF works great outdoors and I used it for different events. I have a Sony a77 so with this lens I have to get use to the weight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality Product While I have only rented on occasion the Sony equivalent of this lens, as a photo enthusuiast I cant find any real differences between the two. This is my second Tamron f/2.8 lens and both are high quality and perform nearly identical to more expensive Sony brand lenses for a fraction of the cost.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great lens sharp on FF sharper on aps-C I bought this lens about 3 months after it was released selling the 001 which was getting a bit too old... My only complaint was the price . Without the OS (VC) it should have cost less... I like the lens as an alternative to my sigma 85mm 1.4 when a prime lens just isn't practical
