Leica puts a new spin on their perennial favorite, the 8x42 Trinovid HD Binoculars with phase corrected prisms that are coated with highly reflective multi-coatings to increase reflectivity, and anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics to boost light transmission through the lenses. These optical coatings work together to produce high-contrast images with true color rendition and minimal distortion. This optical performance is coupled with a comfortable 8x magnification, wide exit pupil and generous eye relief to produce an immersive viewing experience.

Complementing the views produced by the Trinovid HD are construction details that make this optic able to stand up to the rigors of a life lived on the trail. First is a lightweight, sturdy, and corrosion-resistant magnesium alloy chassis that makes this binocular light and easy to handle. The body is covered with a textured rubber armor that protects it from bumps and impacts while giving it a slip-resistant grip in cold or wet conditions. Its optical tubes are nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed to make it waterproof and submersible as well as fogproof when moving between extreme temperature fluctuations. To make handling the Trinovid easier are tethered objective lens covers that flip down and out of the way for observing, plus an ocular rainguard that attaches to the strap.

Leica Trinovid HD 8x42 Reviews

Real World Performance

I've been looking for general purpose/birding binos for awhile. Studied all kinds of charts and read any article I could find. IMO at $1k all major brands are going to perform very very good. Debated Zeiss conquest, Maven B1.2's, Nikon etc. Bottom line - I've owned a Leica M6/35mm Summilux camera for over 20 years and it's been bombproof. The Trinos have been around for 50 years and were chosen for Apollo 11 Moon mission. Leica knows optics. To my eyes, these produce some of the most beautiful views I've ever seen, especially when the sun is low. I'm sure other brands have certain advantages and disadvantages vs Trinovids, but when out on the trail, these simply delight.

Excellent binoculars. I did the research and have now tried them in the field. They're exactly what I wanted. Bright, sharp image even in dim, shady woodland. Wide field, sharp to edge of image. Good eye relief & not too heavy.

I am very pleased with the purchase of my new Leica 8x42 Trinovid HD Binoculars. They compared very well when I tested them against my Swarovski 8.5x42 Els, my Zeiss 8x42 Conquest HDs and my Meade 8x42 Master Class Pro EDs (my Meades perform like Alpha binoculars). These Leica Trinovids are tack sharp, bright, with good eye relief and sturdy twist-up eyecups. A good, all around solid feel. I chose these Trinovids over the Ultravids because of their better eye relief and the many reviews I read about the two and how they're really not that much different. The price point, obviously, came into play, too! I also got for my Trinovids a set of Swarovski winged eyecups with matching rainguard and a cordura nylon carrying case. Again, I'm very pleased with this purchase! Thanks again, B&H! I'll always do business with you!

Good but a little disappointing

Bright, and mostly beautiful image. Focuser is great. Good depth of field. Im using it mostly for sports. there is some chromatic aberration around the edges. Also looking into a bright object causes some glare or artifacts. Two examples, full moon or focusing into the dart area under a back lit signage in a stadium. With the exception of the bright object in a dark back ground, the image is noticeably better than my colleagues nikons.

Amazing Optics

After doing a lot of research and narrowing it down to three models: Zeiss Conquest, Vortex Razor and this one, I know I made the correct choice - Amazing optics, excellent construction and lightweight. The only negative? The case is terrible. Knowing this before purchasing, I added a Zeiss bag and Vortex harness.

Does the Trinovid come with the AquaDura lens coating? Some sites say yes, others say no.

The Trinovid HD collection does not have the AquaDura coatings like the Ultravids and Noctivids have. The only Trinovids that do have the AquaDura coatings are the Trinovid Classic collection.
