    Leica 11080 reviews

    Vario-Elmar-T 18-56mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH Lens is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great lens had to return it I bought this lens to use with my Leica SL. The lens needed a firmware update to work with the SL. The firmware update can only be applied with the lens attached to a Leica T; NOT and SL. I do not have a Leica T. I have no interest in buying a T simply to be able to update the firmware. I can ship the lens to Leica so they can apply the firmware update, but that's pretty silly. So, I returned the lens to B&H. Leica should warn prospective purchasers that if they intend to use a T lens with an SL, and if the T lens needs a firmware update, you'd better have a T to go along with your SL.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good lens, not blown away With the Lecia T I use this lens, the 35 T, and the 50 M Summilux. This Vario 18-56 is the one I go to the least. It's a quality lens and in good light the results are very good. It's a nice lens for travel photography if you don't want to bring much with you and want versatility. That said, I'm disappointed with the low light performance. I pretty much only use this lens outside in good light. It requires too high of an ISO or too slow of shutter speed to get great exposure inside and in lower light. In some ways this should be no surprise with a f/3.5-5.6 lens, but honestly was hoping for a bit more. I'm glad I have it, and it's in my bag. When traveling and sightseeing its very versatile. Though at family events and when I want to catch people I find Im always happier with the other two lenses I mentioned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love it! Why not? It does the job just right. Of course I have it on my new Leica CL. It is not as fast as the M lenses on my M240, which are all F1 .4. Those of course are fixed focus lenses, and this is a zoom lens. F3 .5 to F 5.6 is not exactly fast, but again this is a zoom lens. I do all of my photography outdoors in West Africa where it wouldn't matter if the lens was F10.0, it would still be plenty fast enough. My subjects are always moving, so just like in sports photography I like to have the shutter speed up, and the aperture fairly high as well, but with a digital camera and fully adjustable ISO this is not a problem at all. It is beautifully made just as I am used to. It is everything a Leica lens promises to be. It certainly seems plenty sharp to me, although the only way I have of measuring is comparing it to other images that I've taken in the past with other lenses. The next time I have an extra bunch of bucks to spend I will by its companion 11-23 mm. lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Glass Glass quality on this lens is great. While a little slow, the ability of the Leica T to take great photos at 2,500 compensates. Took some great photos on NYC subway platform which at 8x11 looked great with little grain.
