20.0MP 1/2.3" CCD image sensor pairs with the DIGIC 4+ image processor to realize notable image clarity and sensitivity to ISO 1600 to support working in a variety of conditions. Additionally, the sensor and processor combine to provide a 2.2 fps continuous shooting rate as well as HD 720p video recording at 25 fps.
A versatile 10x optical zoom lens offers a 24-240mm equivalent focal length range, covering wide-angle to telephoto perspectives. This broad reach is complemented by a versatile Intelligent IS image stabilization system that minimizes the appearance of camera shake for both stills and video shooting:

Stills:
  • Normal IS corrects for a wide range of common camera movements.
  • Panning IS detects deliberate panning movements and does not compensate for lateral movements to permit desired camera movements.
  • Macro (Hybrid) IS corrects for shift-type camera shake that commonly occurs when working with close-up subject matter.
  • Tripod is a dedicated setting that automatically deactivates IS when the use of a tripod is detected since camera-based stabilization is not needed.

Video:
  • Dynamic IS is well-suited to recording at wide-angle focal lengths and reduces unwanted shaking that typically occurs when walking while recording.
  • Powered IS compensates for hand movements that become more visually discernible when working at the telephoto end of the zoom range.
  • Macro (Hybrid) IS minimizes the appearance of shake when walking as well as compensates for shift-type shake that occurs when working with close-up subject matter.
  • Active Tripod IS minimizes the slight amount of shake that can happen when recording video while using a tripod.
Built-in Wi-Fi with NFC allows you to wirelessly share your photos and movies with a linked smartphone or tablet as well as remotely control the camera from the mobile device by using the Camera Connect app. A dedicated Wi-Fi button is also featured on the camera body to expedite the process of connecting with a smartphone or tablet and sharing imagery between devices.
A 2.7" 230k-dot rear LCD monitor is available for composing imagery, navigating the menu, or reviewing photos and videos.
Smart AUTO intelligently selects the proper camera settings based on recognized shooting situations.
A variety of Shooting Modes can be used to optimize the camera's settings based on a specific scene type you are working in, including Low Light, Portrait, and Fireworks modes.
Scene Modes, such as Fisheye Effect, Toy Camera Effect, and Monochrome, help to creatively adjust the look of your photographs in-camera.
ECO Mode intelligently reduces your power consumption, aiding in producing longer battery life for more shooting time.
For quickly familiarizing oneself with the camera, a Help Button provides a convenient explanation of the various camera settings and controls.

Canon ELPH 190 IS Reviews

ELPH 190 is all that and more

I had to replace an older ELPH, so I looked at various brands and models, and decided to get another ELPH. The 190 didn't cost much more than the 180, and offered a 10X zoom and other features. One was wifi--why would I want a camera with wifi? It turns out that I could send photos directly to my cell phone, use that cell phone as a wireless shutter release, or send pictures to my laptop without pulling the SD card. And the whole thing can slip effortlessly into my shirt pocket. There was a time when I toted a Nikon F2, several lenses, a handheld light meter, lots of Kodachrome 25, and a tripod, etc, but I've grown old and less ambitious, and like the convenience of travelling light. This little camera takes great pictures, is easy to operate, and is made by one of the premier camera manufacturers in the world. I'm very pleased with it.

I was looking for a canon camera and I thought the extra zoom the stabilizer and Wi-Fi over the 180 was worth the extra price

Two days of fun

I have had my ELPH 190IS for just two days and it has exceeded my expectations, feature by feature. I am a professional photographer serving non-profits in town. Aside from my convenience, a small camera is less intimidating to event guests than a Rebel with full flash and grip! You do have to wiggle it around to get the focus spot where needed, but focus is always good. I need to carry two lenses for my Rebel to do what the 190IS lens can do. It does turn on in wide angle - 50mm would be better. I hope you can appreciate that the attached photo was hand-held and is a photo of Jupiter. Beat that!!

Better than before

This little camera is almost a duplicate of the one that it replaced - all the controls are conveniently placed the same way. But this one takes better photos.

How long does the battery last?

How long does the battery last?
Asked by: Michael
I was impressed with the life of a charge on the battery and I was using it for work. I can't give you a time or number of pictured because my use of the camera was not consistent. I always carry a spare battery because when it shows low batter on the battery icon, you are about done shooting. That is why I always carried a spare, charged battery.

I'm looking to replace a SD1100-IS and a A1000-IS, both are PowerShots with viewfinders and are great little P&S cameras. These latest ELPHs appear to *not* have viewfinders, is that correct? I also have a SX110-IS with no viewfinder, it is *horrible* to use in bright sunlight, display is totally washed out so I am "gun-shy" about cameras lacking viewfinders. Looking for suggestions or comments from anyone. Thank you.
Asked by: Ron
The models of Canon ELPH cameras that are made today do not come with optical viewfinders, that's true. However, this model of a Canon point and shoot offers an optical viewfinder and also a built-in photo printer: Canon IVY CLIQ2 Instant Camera / Printer with 50 Sheets of Paper Kit (Charcoal) (B&H# CACV223MC50P) https://bhpho.to/3ljJpXv

Very tentative "maybe' depending on what you would consider as good. Expensive trip. Once-in-a-lifetime chance. You probably should opt for a better camera.
