Yongnuo YN685 reviews

YN685 Wireless TTL Speedlite and Wireless Flash Controller Kit for Canon Cameras is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 26.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't do it! I purchased this flash even with the bad reviews thinking I have 3 other Yongnou flashes that work wonderfully. I need one that has HSS and TTl. I started getting an PL error message with in 1month of use. I reconditioned my rechargeable eenloop batteries, replaced the batteries with new one and still kept getting error. It finally wouldn't turn on at all. Luckily, I purchased SquareTrade insurance and received a full refund from them!! If you purchase this flash be sure to get the SquareTrade service.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great value, Impressive I'm so glad I got this flash as opposed to going with Canon. You could get 3 or 4 of these for the cost of the comparable Canon. This flash does not need a receiver attached. One less item to worry about. Works well with the transceiver. I gave it a 4 star because manual flash operation is a little more difficult than the expensive counterpart. Also, these are sold as a kit. This has zoom to 200mm, but the transceiver will only control it to 105mm? I'll definitely be getting more of these in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Photography hobbyist yungnuo yn685 and 622 controller Product came and was boxed well, the Yungnuo packaging is quite nice. The actual flash is large and feels like it is sturdy and built well. The only part that did not feel so sturdy was the locking mechanism for the hotshoe. I put batteries in both the controller and flash and off I went to a friends birthday party. I took around 250-300 shots and the flash and controller worked flawlessly. The battery lasted and I still had more than 1/2 capacity by the time I was done shooting. The refresh rate on the flash was quick, most times instant, and other times up to 3 secs or so. I was shooting mostly TTL but I did shoot with manual control a few times and a full power it was 5-6 secs to refresh at full power. The speedlite syncs easily controls are somewhat easy to understand without reading the instructions. I will say I did have to dive in to the manual a few times but nothing to difficult to figure out. The zoom on this flash has a bit of noise but nothing loud or pronounced, at an event you wouldn't even hear it with ambient noise of people talking etc. The stand is nice and large and has the female screw in piece for stands etc. The 14mm plastic diffuser that pops up and over when you pull the white bounce card seems built with OK quality and is relatively easy to extend and put back. The back of the speedlite led interface is bright and ease to read, I found it easy enough to move from menu to menu and understood the controls easily. This is my first large speedlite and Overall I am very happy with the yn685 power ease of use and build quality. I ordered a second yn685 speedlite and look forward to receiving it soon. The wireless system is great! For the money the quality and features are outstanding, also b&h is quick and efficient to get the orders out. I would order this if they are in stock because they sell out quickly. Enjoy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No Complaints I have no complaints. I find it to be easy to use. The only thing that I have to compare to is my Canon 430 EX II. The build quality is roughly similar, though not quite up to Canon's fit and finish. The bottom line is that I think the flash will meet my needs. I'm crossing my fingers that it will stand the test of time. The manual is poorly translated. I wish that I could that I could give a more meaningful review. But, I'm new to flash photography.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't waste your time. I purchased this flash for my wife Dec. 6 2016. She tried to use it on Christmas of this year (Dec. 25 2017) to discover that the screen on the flash would not show anything allowing her to use it. It is completely blank. I contacted B and H to find out about the warranty on the item. They said it had expired as it only has a one year warranty. Do not purchase as the product is not built to last. I would not recommend this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Three controller units had battery problems. When the kit arrive, I put AAA batteries in the controller unit and one battery was not making secure contact in its compartment, thus the unit would flicker between off and on. I happened to be in NYC and I went to the B&H returns department and requested a replacement. I got a new one on the spot and decided to try it right there. It had the same exact problem, so the salesman fetched another one. Again, it had the same problem, so I decided to return just the controller but kept the flash unit. Must have been a bad batch. However, the flash unit works just fine. I used it for a wedding and it worked flawlessly. The menu is fairly easy to navigate if you know what you're looking for and you're familiar with flash terms. For example, it was beeping after every shot and I couldn't have that during the wedding in the church. I was able to find that setting easily enough and was able to turn it off. TTL works pretty good but, a nice feature is the flash compensation setting, which I used quite often. Setting the zoom factor has to be done manually. First I set the zoom factor on my lens, and then set the flash zoom factor. It would be nice if it could detect the lens zoom factor automatically. Another nice feature is the built-in diffuser and reflector. By using the reflector the image is much more softer and you don't notice that flash look. One thing about the diffuser is that if you pull it out, your zoom factor will default to 14mm. You have to push it all the way in when you are done with it, otherwise, you won't be able to change your zoom factor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Awesome! I love my Canon products, but I use what works! Especially if i am usually hanging off dangerous areas.. broke a few flashes before and always buying more.. I have tested these brand flashes, non TTL.. and they work great! I still use them on my manual shoots... But wanted to test shooting TTL. Easy setup, took about 5 minutes to read instructions and hook up to my 5D MKII. Going to purchase more and set in groups.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I would definitely purchase it again in a heartbeat! Problem: 1. Had a problem with Flash Controller: it would not register the lens zoon information and would not transmit it to the flash. Problem was resolved by exchanging product. Pros: 1. Consistent flash output 2. High speed sync works great on flash and controller 3. Transmission of information from controller to flash is flawless 4. Recharge time on Flash is pretty consistent with specs. 5. Audible ready indicator on flash is a boon. 6. Good material, good construction and quality 7. Flash head rotation is a little tight, but gives full range of motion on horizontal and vertical axes. Degree of rotation marking is a pleasant surprise. Note: 1. Haven' used 2nd curtain sync yet, so can't comment on it. 2. Flash had a lot of grease on pivot joint, which I had to wipe off. Conclusion: Pros outweigh the cons, and I would definitely buy this product again in a heartbeat
