Connect a variety of Thunderbolt 2, USB 3.0, FireWire 800, HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet, and 3.5mm audio peripherals to your Mac system using the 12 Port Thunderbolt 2 Dock from OWC / Other World Computing. This dock contains 2 x Thunderbolt 2 (20 Gb/s) ports, 5 x USB 3.0 (5 Gb/s) ports, 1 x FireWire 800 (800 Mb/s) ports, 1 x HDMI 1.4b port, 1 x 3.5mm mic/line in port, and 1 x 3.5mm audio/line out port.

In addition to allowing device connectivity to be expanded beyond the limits of your system, this 12-port dock performs several other functions. For example, two of its USB 3.0 ports are equipped as high-power charging ports for devices such as smartphones, tablets, and virtually any device that may be charged via USB. The Thunderbolt 2 ports will allow up to five Thunderbolt devices to be daisy-chained together, plus a display. The FireWire 800 port will allow up to 63 devices to be daisy-chained together, while the Gigabit Ethernet port will provide a wired network connection to systems that lack an Ethernet port, such as a MacBook Air or a MacBook Pro with Retina display. Additionally, the HDMI 1.4b port supports resolutions up to 4K/30 Hz, and there is DisplayPort 1.2 support for resolutions up to 4K/60 Hz. Lastly, the mic/line in and audio/line out ports will allow items such as microphones, headphones, speakers, and other 3.5mm-compatible accessories to be connected to your system.

The 12 Port Thunderbolt 2 Dock is compatible with any Thunderbolt-equipped Mac running OS X 10.9.4 or later. It operates using an included universal auto-switching 100-240 VAC power supply.

2 x Thunderbolt 2 Ports
Dual Thunderbolt 2 ports can provide up to 20 Gb/s of bandwidth and allow users to connect and daisy-chain up to five Thunderbolt devices plus a display
5 x USB 3.0 Ports
Five USB 3.0 ports can provide up to 5 Gb/s of bandwidth and allows users to connect compatible devices to their system. Additionally, two of the USB 3.0 ports double as high-powered charging ports for devices that may be charged via USB
1 x FireWire 800 Port
The single FireWire 800 port can provide up to 800 Mb/s of bandwidth and allows up to 634 devices to be daisy-chained to this system
1 x HDMI 1.4b
HDMI 1.4b supports resolutions up to 4K/30 Hz for displaying video on an external display, TV, or projector
DisplayPort 1.2
DisplayPort 1.2 is also supported, with resolutions up to 4K/60 Hz
1 x Gigabit Ethernet
The Gigabit Ethernet port will provide a wired network connection to systems without an Ethernet port, such as a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro with Retina display
2 x 3.5mm Audio Jacks
The 1 x Mic/Line In port and 1 x Audio/Line Out port allow devices such as microphones, headphones, speakers, and more to be connected to your system

If you are not using the HDMI port, then you can use a Mini Display Port cable or adapter to connect a display to the Thunderbolt port
DVI, VGA, DisplayPort, and other connections require the use of a Mini DisplayPort cable or adapter
USB 3.0 ports are only bootable on Mid 2013 and later Macs
Thunderbolt, FireWire, and Ethernet, are bootable on all Macs with a Thunderbolt port

12 Port Thunderbolt 2 Dock is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Avoid it I got this product directly from OWC. It worked ok for a week and then started to drop signal to monitor. I contacted support and they started to blame the monitor that it does not have the right HDMI spec. Monitor works just fine without this dock. Finally they gave me a RMA number to send it back and get a replacement. I sent it back to them to them but I have not received any replacement from them. Its been over two weeks. They claim they are running tests on the device. Mean while I do not have the product I paid for barely three months down the road. OWC's customer support is abysmal. Stay away from this device.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy "desktop" use of notebook computer As I was retiring my older iMac in favor of using a newer Macbook Pro r13 for everything, this dock was a great way to simplify my desktop arrangement. While it would have been nice to have more USB ports (rather than the legacy Firewire port), that was easily accommodated by an existing USB 3.0 "hub" that I planned on using anyway. All in all, this is a very nice product and I wouldn't hesitate to buy the newer, Thunderbolt-III/USB-C version in the future for similar use when I upgrade my computer to a version that requires USB-C. OWC is one of my favorite Apple-focused accessory companies and they have once again come through.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect solution Working in music and video production means I can need a few drives and control surfaces in thunderbolt, USB & FireWire all running at once. Not to mention iLok keys, printers, interfaces & midi keyboards. Then suddenly a stray USB from a client arrives mis session or a USB modem is needed! This device helps solve the crisis and clean up cables that otherwise clutter a workspace. I do wish it had one more thunderbolt port. The only issue is a faint hum. So I'll have to move it off the desk into a rack for clear monitoring. Great solution in a busy workspace.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Frequently fails This hub is connected to a MacBook Pro via thunderbolt. The Thunderbolt port on the hub is used for an external monitor and the USB ports are used for keyboard and an external HDD, the ethernet port is used also. The Thunderbolt port with DVI adapter frequently stops working and I need to unplug and reattach it. Now recently the entire box fails and I need to remove power and plug it in again, and it only works for less than minute afterwards. Asking for a return.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This Dock is working on both Mac 10.10 adn Windows 8.1 This thunderbolt dock does work on both Mac OS 10.10 and Windows 8.1 (Boot camp, it is a free utility from Apple) on the MacBook Pro mid 2015 laptop. It is plug and play under both mentioned Operating Systems. I also tested it with an external FireWire 800 drive attached during booting up on both OS and it did boot up just fine. Connected a WD My Passport Pro via thunderbolt 1 cable and it is working fine too, tried USB 1.0, USB 2.0, and USB 3.0 external drives are all worked. HDMI to Computer monitor, or HDMI to DVI adapter to Computer monitor are working. USB keyboard, mouse, and Audio out 3.5mm jack are working. Tried those two fast charging ports on the side of this OWC dock with a smartphone, iPad 2 (after installed the OWC Thunderbolt2 Dock drivers that needed, download link is in the manual booklet included with the dock)is working. It is getting warm during computer is on, it is cool off after not using. So far the dock is working as advertised. Last but not least, B&H service is second to none, I have been an B&H customer since 1987.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect mate for Macbook Pro Works perfectly with my 15 MBPr. Two thoughts: 1) one more Thunderbolt port would be great. Since I'm using one port to connect a KVM arrangement and the other to connect to the MBP, when using a Thunderbolt external drive I need to connect it to the laptop. Which really isn't a big deal. 2) The unit feels quite warm when running. I added taller rubber feet to the underside to allow for better air flow.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Connect USB 3 devices with the Thunderbolt connection This is the second dock I have purchased this year. My fear is that it runs unusually hot when data is flowing through them. The first unit failed after two months and it was replaced through the warranty. Perhaps the heat is what damaged the first one. Otherwise, the dock works well and I'm able to connect all my usb 3 devices when transferring and backing up my photos. Data transfer is fast.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Yum, ports galore! Yes yes dont stop. Give me ALL the ports! Firewire 800? Yep, it's got that. With Macbook Pros getting rid of these things to make them smaller, we need to purchase this to get them back again. Just make sure you've got actual thunderbolt and not just for display.
