question

Does it run on 220V?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes it does - I opened the player and saw that the circuit board supports 250VAC. I personally used it on a 220V. I couldn't attach a picture of the circuit board.

question

whats the difference between this and the ubd k85c model?
Asked by: Anonymous
We couldn't begin to guess as the Samsung UBD-KM85c is a product labeled specifically for warehouse clubs like Costco. According to COSTCO's website it is identical to the Samsung UBD-K8500 Ultra HD Blu-ray Player. COSTCO has used the same description that Samsung offers on their website.

question

does this player have ability to freeze frame and then advance frame by frame If so how?
Asked by: Anonymous
You can freeze-frame by just pressing the play/pause button. But it does not have the ability to advance frame-by-frame. I should say the remote control does not have that function. Now whether or not the player itself can be advanced frame-by-frame is still questionable too seeing there is no frame-by-frame button(s) on the player. In the User Manual (page 7 3 Remote Control ) there is a statement under the directions for skip characters that says: Design and specifications are subject to change without notification. It's possible that Samsung might release a better (larger) remote that might have the frame-by-frame option. I say this because the remote control has had a ton of complaints about its size (too small). You'll just have to check with Samsung itself to see if they have upgraded/up-scaled the remote.

question

What level of support does the UBD-K8500 provide for disks encoded with the Dolby Vision version of HDR?
Asked by: Anonymous
That is a pretty generic question for someone wanting a specific answer. The answer is twofold, first Samsung updates their product more than my Marantz and Sony high end projector and at first I was disappointed until Sony decided to update HDR on my projector and the difference in now obvious. Now, was it the HDR updates of the Samsung or Marantz 7010 receiver, I cannot tell. I feel that it was the combination of Samsung, Marantz and Sony, as everyone was HDR compatible to begin with, for my Sony VPL-VW556ES projector to come in sync. Sony was the last to update and that is usual for Sony for some reason, maybe they wanted to look good at the expense of other HDR equipment. This is not a precise answer but it is the only one that I have. Most people don't have the type of calibration equipment to check out how updates compare and I am one of those that don't. I can only see the difference with my eyes. I hope that this is helpful to you but feel that you may be looking for a different answer.

question

How do you get your new BDK8500 to go to full screen? I have a HU9000, but I have tried everything and it just won't go to full screen. It does with Netflix but it doesn't do it with any disc. Please help thank you
Asked by: jim h.
I am not sure what you mean. Do you mean fullscreen vs. widescreen, as in 4x3 vs. 16x9, like old SDTV vs. new HDTV? If so, this is something I control via my TV, not my disk player. When it is a widescreen movie that has been squashed into 4x3, then the zoom setting on the TV seems to approximate widescreen (although the content edges tend to go slightly off the screen area). But my BDK8500 has worked out of the box with my HU8550 for all disk formats I have yet tried. Now, when you are playing content from .mp4, .avi, or other digital compressed files that you might be accessing via the USB port, their aspect ratios are fixed and cannot be adjusted either on the player or on the TV, at least not by any setting I have found. While this is a simple matter with computer players, the processing capability seems to be lacking on televisions.
