Lowepro BP 250 AW II Reviews

Carries my 4x5 large format gear perfectly!

I absolutely LOVE this backpack. I bought it to carry my large format 4x5 field camera on landscape photo hikes, and it is perfect. I put the camera, black cloth, and some film holders in the top compartment. The lower padded/divided compartment carries my three lenses, light meter, and filters. I put a couple more film holders in the front pouch, and I can carry a water bottle and snacks in the two exterior side pouches. The bag is well-built (as has been my experience with other Lowepro bags). The shoulder straps are padded and there is a chest strap. The only minor shortcoming is the waist strap; it is lightweight and non-padded, so if you expect to situate the majority of the load on your hips, it won't be comfortable. But for overall day use, this thing is fantastic. One of my favorite bags hands-down.

Perfect!

Love it! It's exactly what I needed. Very sturdy as well. I love that you can take the camera bag out and use it as a regular backpack. I really can't say enough about this backpack.

Plenty of space

Previously had the smaller BP 150 AW II. It's an excellent quality bag with useful features but I needed something larger to store a mirrorless camera AND Mavic Mini gear. The 250 provides the extra space i need while still being small enough to not be cumbersome. Highly recommend Lowepro, and the 250 in particular.

I just starting using it, bought it as emergency, because previous one, also from b&h , but another brand , suddenly fell apart ( zippers stop zipping :-( ) Changing zipper costs approximately like buying new bag. It’s light and comfortable, my camera compartment can be open only if I take backpack off, but this is my choice. I hope, zippers here will be better than at previous one

Nice all-around travel backpack

This was bought for a trip that involves lots of hiking. It strikes a nice balance because it allows you to travel light but not cheap. It fits a body and two lenses with no difficulty, and the upper half lets you carry non-photo gear and supplies. The outside pocket provides good protection for a smaller laptop or a full-size pad.

Nice backpack but not perfect.

I think it's a decent backpack. I like the fact that you can take the whole camera compartment out separately - I travel a lot and this is super handy when going through TSA security at the airports. The backpack is also very comfortable to carry, sits nicely on my back. What I don't like is that the inner pockets in the upper casual section of the backpack become inaccessible when that section is filled with things - you have to take stuff out in order to open the smaller zipper compartments. I also think that since this backpack technically does fit a 13 laptop, it should have some inner divider to make fitting the laptop easier. I know, fitting a laptop is not officially claimed by the manufacture but since it DOES actually fit it, I think not making it an actual feature that lets you do it without a hassle is a missed opportunity (currently you have to un-velcro the bottom of the top compartment and slide the laptop either behind or in front of the padding of the gear section - it's a hack). Another thing I'm not convinced I like is the choice of fabrics used for the backpack. I own one of the first Lowepro hatchback type backpacks and it uses much much tougher materials - at least it seams. These feel rather thin and I can see them getting cuts and tears. Same goes for the zippers. But overall, I think the backpack is a good value.

Works Great

The photo section has limited options for rearranging the dividers, but it works fine. Overall it's a great size for a small kit and a few hiking necessities.

It's my second one...

The first one is still in perfect shape after many years of service. I just needed one more to carry more gear (not on my back, in my car) The back-of-the-pack access is brilliant, your camera is not so easy to take without you noticing it (like in the subway)...
