The ThunderBay 4 mini Four-Bay Thunderbolt 2 Array from OWC / Other World Computing features four 2.5" bays that can each house a 2.5" SSD or HDD to provide your system a large amount of data storage. OWC has designed the ThunderBay 4 Mini to handle demanding applications such as workflows involving 4K, 2K, uncompressed HD, and multi-stream SD videos. Moreover, the mini's size and weight lets you easily transport your data between production environments.
OWC has preconfigured the four drives in a RAID 5 array that enables the drives to provide a sustained read speed of up to 1010 MB/s and a sustained write speed of up to 908 MB/s. They can also be configured, by using the SoftRAID software for Mac, into different RAID options that offer redundancy, speed, or a combination of both. You may reconfigure the drives in a RAID 0 array for performance, delivering sustained 1346 MB/s reads and 1321 MB/s writes.
The ThunderBay 4 mini is equipped with two Thunderbolt 2 ports that transfer data at speeds of up to 20 Gb/s between your system and the array. It also allows you to daisy-chain up to six devices such as additional ThunderBays, 4K displays, and more. To cool the drives and the array, OWC uses a quiet 60mm fan along with a "flow-thru" vented design. Additionally, included with the array is a 3.3' (1m) Thunderbolt cable to help you get started.
RAID 5 Benefits
While in a RAID 5 array, the four drives inside ThunderBay 4 mini are merged for increased capacity and performance over a single drive. Special redundancy data, called "parity information," is also stored across the drives, allowing your data to remain completely safe so you can maintain your mission-critical workflows worry-free.
ThunderBay 4 Mini utilizes a heat-dissipating aluminum unibody shell with a "flow-thru" vented design and a 60mm quiet fan to keep everything cool.
4K Display Support
The dual Thunderbolt 2 ports let you connect any display including 4K displays.
ThunderBay's drive-isolating design reduces sonic resonance and is aided by rugged, vibration-absorbing, non-skid feet.
Daisy-chain up to six ThunderBays on a single Thunderbolt port for expansive storage, RAID, and performance options.
SoftRAID Engine This software program for Mac systems delivers RAID modes as well as real-time health monitoring with email notifications and rebuild speeds. Unlike traditional software RAID solutions, SoftRAID 5 for ThunderBay's volume optimization allows you to quickly configure your drive for specific workflows.
Prosoft Engineering Data Backup 3 Data Backup 3 is a software utility for Mac that allows you to back up, restore, and synchronize your valuable data with minimal effort.
