I used this in my 2010 Macbook Pro when I upgraded to a SSD. The data doubler saved my old HD from the landfill.

Laptop was reporting hard drive as failing. Decided to replace my 5400rpm HDD with an SSD boot drive and a 7200rpm HDD into this Data Doubler. Instructions could have been a little better, but were easy enough to follow. Installation really was not that difficult. Kit came with all tools necessary for job and there were a few extra screws in the pack just in case I lost one of those tiny things. Tripled my onboard storage!

I replaced the HD with an SSD and I put the HD in place of the CD player (It didn't work). In this case, this converter is totally necessary and convenient, easy to set up as long as you have a few notions of what you do.

question

Hi, will this fit an early 2009 iMac (EMC 2266, MB417LL)?
Asked by: Anonymous
Hi! Well I'm not an expert in this field, the question is, will it fit? I have no clue about it? I tell you what I know.I have an early 2011 17 Mac book pro, with an original SSD from Apple, processor a 2.3 Ghz intel core i7, 16 Go of ram, 1333 Mhz DDR3. The SSD kit works fine. It fit prefect in my computer. BUT...I bought it to make a raid system, but that dont work. The computer is not build for that, The system see the second SSD, but dont see the external DVD player, the original one of the computer being replace by the SSD and place into a little back box that come with the kit. You have to use a software like VLC to use the external DVD player. The SSD It does not increase the speed of the computer. I have seen a guy on YouTube doing it but it was a late 2011 Mac Book Pro 17 . An early 2011 and a late 2011, big difference between the 2 computers. Externally they look the same but inside it's two different world. So make sure you know what you want to do with the SSD, (if you add a doubler it should be for an SSD I believe) in my computer the processor is not fast anought to have an SSD, also SSD are not so good for video, I should have bought an 7200 rpm as a drive. But all that you know after you try it, because when I but it, nobody around me knew about these things. I had to make my own experiments. My personal opinion, my feeling about a 2009 computer with an SSD, not a good match, the computer is too old not fast enough. SSD are normally bought for speed, I have a 2011, and it did not work, a 2009! no I dont think it will improve the performance of the computer even if it fit in it. It's too old.If something is broken, replace the parts with something similar. Also a SSD only speed up certain fonction of the computer like opening a software, the reading an writing on the disk it's a different story, it's very tricky the way parts interact between them inside a computer...anywayHope this will help. Do not recommend to buy it.Thanks, Claude
