This is my 3rd OWC hard drive purchase. These things are great to travel with and the case provides excellent protection .

Had to clone my hard drive to an empty external HD in order to install new OS. The OWC HD performed flawlessly. It now also performs my Time Machine backup. It's simple, unobtrusive, works in the background, and is reliable.

Fast! Works well and it's tough.

I've used others brands and am happy I finally found a solid product.

Eye-Catching and Functional

I've been using an OWC Guardian MAXimus as my primary working drive for several years now, and it has been extremely reliable. When searching for a drive for travel use, this OWC drive was an easy decision. While I've only used the drive for a few weeks, I have every expectation that it will function as reliably as my existing OWC products. It isn't the flashiest drive, but it does garner the occasional compliment from passers by. Overall, it represents a good balance between value and functionality.

But it is the most reliable external I've used.

I like this hard drive.

The download speed is awesome. It is a whole lot faster the other brand I had at first. I like the on/off switch which keep me from having to leave it on at all times. The blue light is very cool. When I get another hard drive, this will definitely be the one, with more TBs, of course. Unless it give me problems later, right now it's a great investment.

Hi, I need to replace a dead hard drive in my mid-2011 iMac but would prefer not cracking it open. Can I use the firewire connectivity with this external SSD to boot up and use for storage? Or should I consider a thunderbolt connection using something like the Akitio Thunder SATA Dock with an external SSD? Thank you for your advice!
Asked by: John K.
Both interfaces are bootable, but Thunderbolt is much faster than Firewire.

The drives are easily swapped out. The only tool needed is a Phillips screwdriver.
