Offering a natural perspective along with a fast maximum aperture, the EF 50mm f/1.4 USM from Canon is a versatile normal-length prime characterized by its bright f/1.4 aperture to suit working in low-light conditions and for producing shallow depth of field imagery. This lens also features a Gaussian optics design, along with two high refractive index elements, to control spherical aberrations and distortion for high sharpness and clarity. A Super Spectra coating has also been applied to suppress flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in difficult lighting conditions. Complementing the optical design is a micro USM, which enables quick and quiet autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus control.

Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Reviews
Great bokeh and focus
I was having issues with my last lens focusing as it should, so I tried out another, but it still was not up to par. This lens has great focus though! It solved my issue. Also, I didn't think the difference between f/1.8 (my last lens) and 1.4 would be so huge, but it really makes the background so so buttery and gorgeous. Really awesome lens.
Great lens!
Just getting into photography, this is the first lens I purchased for my 90D. Love how crisp it is!
It's ok
So far so good!
Very Pleased!
Works well in the very low light situation of concerts, that I need it to. The lens is pretty lightweight, easy to use.
Soft focus
Had I watched the several YouTube reviews of this lens prior to buying it I would most likely have not gotten this lens. True to the reviews the focus at 1.4 and 1.6 is very soft; not unusable, but something that has to be sharpened in post. I am not sure how much use this lens will get given that my photography interests are mostly landscapes, macro, and wildlife. I will have to use the lens more to find its potential as far as my interests go. I have not really tried it out on low-light landscape pictures. I did try to use it hand held on an indoor model train layout with pretty lousy results, but that might be learning curve. At a recent event I did make a point to focus on individual people and the bokeh effect is nice in that the subject stands out clearly against the blurred background. I shot them at 2.8 and the subject is nice and crisp. Of my zillion or so photographs I think that these are the only 3 where the subject are people, so I don't see me using the lens that much for that kind of picture.
Worthy Investment
I'm not a person who has vast amounts of money for buying equipment and when I do buy a lens or something, I worry if it was a good buy until I get to test it. This lens was a very good buy. The clarity, and crispness of the images is something to see.
Wonderful quality
I always love a 50 mm and this product has provided everything I needed out of a 50 mm.
A good purchase
I'm glad I finally bought this lens. It is sharp and compact.
