I ordered my first Nikon D500 2 years ago & immediately LOVED so many things about it!! I was so excited when it became available again last month & ordered another one. I now shoot weddings with 2 matching systems ~ one with flash for indoor getting ready & reception fun, the other for natural light anywhere I can!

Great for wildlife photography

I upgraded from a NikonD5300 so of course this will seem a lot better. But it is better than expected especially for the price. Using the same lens on my D5300 and this camera, there is a massive improvement for what fits in the frame and clarity. I use it for wildlife photography, mostly birds, and this camera is so quick it catches the birds so well in flight and doing quick movements. The larger range in ISO is also really fun to play with.

Industry standard for sports photography

The Nikon D500 has been a sports photography workhorse for awhile but still beats out newer models for features related to action photography. This is actually my second exact same body so I can shoot with two cameras at various sporting events.

Autofocus is spot on and fast. 10fps is awesome too, I don't think you can beat this camera at the price point.

Best wildlife camera available

The D500 with its 10 fps shutter, optical viewfinder, 100 shot RAW buffer, and great auto focus is a great option for wildlife. I shoot mostly birds and appreciate the "crop factor" even though I know it's mainly an optical "illusion" over full frame. It is ruggedly built and weather resistant.

Continuous lock ups

Within the first 20 photos my camera locked up during use, not responding to any button presses and unable to be turned off unless the battery was removed. I thought maybe it was a fluke so I brushed it off. Well now it occurs every time I use this new body, I have under 200 shots and it locks up every 20-30 shots requiring battery removal... I'm using supported memory cards of both model types and tried multiple cards. I've tried multiple lenses, multiple batteries, and with and without a battery grip and the issues persist. Sometimes I get an ERR message and sometimes not, looks like I got a $1,600 paperweight and will have to continue using my old d7200 for DX and d750 for FX.....

question

The specs list the focus modes on the D500 as continuous and manual, only. Is there a single-servo (AF-S) mode on this camera (so focus can be locked)?

question

Sqare Trade Protection Plan (STPP) for D500: Square Trade technicians are not trained by Nikon. How do they know how to fix problems with this complex, brand new camera? Talking to STPP representatives on the phone did not provide any answers. It's confidential I was told. What do others think of STPP?
Asked by: Chester
Square Trade is an excellent protective plan for electronic goods. Their repair service is highly esteemed by many customers.

What are the minimum specifications for the card(s) (both SD and XQD) in order for the camera to support 10 fps for 200 images?
Asked by: Mike
Thank you for the rapid responses … However, these two replies are somewhat contradictory. I do not currently own a D500 but I'm seriously considering acquiring one. (Hence I do not have the manual to peruse!) Both answers seem to make sense, but I do not see how both can be correct simultaneously. As I will probably purchase a D500 (waiting for Black Friday/Cyber Monday to see if I can get a better deal!) I'm trying to figure out what card(s) to buy with it and how to configure the camera to use them to best advantage. I LIKE the ability to use an SD card as a backup, but "Anonymous" indicates this will impair my ability to take 10 fps for 200 images. The answers are not likely to dissuade me from buying the D500, but is will likely influence my options on card selections and in-camera setup. Thanks

You can find the lens sold separately on the B&H site and find all the specs plus reviews there . I've been quite happy with mine (also bought as part of the D500 kit) and, to me at least, it seems to be quite a cut above the typical "kit lens."
