Garmin 010-01338-40 overview

  • 1Description

Up your game with the Garmin fenix 3 Sapphire Multisport Training GPS Watch in titanium with a titanium band. This fitness watch was designed with multisport athletes in mind and records data useful to runners, cyclists, swimmers, climbers, hikers, skiers, paddlers, and more. It logs your location using a stainless steel EXO antenna that supports both GPS and GLONASS for enhanced accuracy, and can be used with a heart rate monitor to calculate your VO2.

The fenix 3 connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth Smart, allowing it to transfer its stored data to the phone and to receive notifications, text messages, and emails while on the go. It also functions as an activity tracker, silently logging your steps and encouraging you to get moving after an extended period of inactivity. When it's time to rest after a long day of exercise, your fenix 3 will monitor your sleep and record periods of restful sleep or movement.

Your fenix 3 uses a stainless steel EXO antenna, unobtrusively integrated into the bezel, to receive signals from GPS and GLONASS satellites. It uses this data to create a track log, using a "breadcrumb trail" system of track points and user-entered locations and checkpoints so you can always find your way.
Altimeter, Barometer, and Compass
The fenix 3 has built-in altimeter, barometer, and compass (ABC) sensors to provide real-time information while out and about. The altimeter provides elevation data to accurately monitor ascent and descent, while the barometer can be used to predict weather changes by showing short-term trends in air pressure. The 3-axis electronic compass keeps your bearing whether or not you're in motion. Calibration is taken care of automatically via GPS, and the watch sets the time based on location.

Running and Cycling

VO2 Max Estimator
When used with an optional heart rate monitor, the fenix 3 uses your speed, heart beats per minute, and heart rate variability to calculate the maximum approximate volume of oxygen you can consume per minute. A recovery advisor with a recovery timer and recovery check let you train safely and a race predictor estimates your ideal finish time based on your current VO2 max number.
Running Dynamics
When used with the optional Garmin HRM-Run monitor, the fenix 3 records your cadence, vertical oscillation and ground contact time so you can safely increase your running economy.
Cycling Features
When used with the optional Vector cycle power meter, the fenix 3 records your pedaling power, speed, and cadence. It also stores multiple bicycle profiles.
Other Running and Cycling Features
Heart rate-based calorie computation
Interval training (set up exercise and rest intervals)
Virtual Partner (train against a digital person)
Virtual Racer (compete against other activities)
Personal records
Auto Pause (pauses and resumes timer based on speed)
Multi-sport (changes sport mode with a press of a button)
Advanced workouts (create custom, goal-oriented workouts)
Virtual Pacer (compares current pace to target)
Accelerometer (calculates distance for indoor workouts, without need for a foot pod)
Training Effect (measures impact of an activity on your aerobic fitness)

Additional Sport Modes

Swimming Mode
Simply input the size of the pool you're swimming in and jump in; your fenix 3 will track your distance, pace, stroke type, stroke count, and more. It can also calculate your open-water swim distance when swimming in lakes and oceans.
Ski/Snowboard Mode
This mode records and displays your speed, distance, and more while on the slopes. An automatic run counter and lift line auto-pause let you keep track of your entire day.

Your fenix 3 uses the ConnectIQ platform for specialized software so you can personalize your watch with customized apps, widgets, data fields and unique watch faces.
With BaseCamp, you can trace your planned route and view elevation changes, survey the terrain in 2-D or 3-D, geotag your photos, and more.
Connect 2.0
Maximize your fenix 3's potential with Garmin Connect 2.0, which lets you search and create courses where you can analyze and live track your progress, take advantage of advanced workouts and step-by-step guidance, and connect with friends, family, and pros to compare and compete.

    Garmin 010-01338-40 reviews

fenix 3 Sapphire Multisport Training GPS Watch (Titanium with Titanium Band) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not just for training I use this watch as my regular watch. The only downside so far is that you have to take it off to be charged. My former watch was solar. It is large and it can be heavy to some. I have small wrists and I had to have many links taken out. Some of my shirt cuffs don't fit over it. I have received many complements on it's style. I will probably not use it for extreme sports, but I do use it for my activity level. Since I swim and bike, it was one of the few options. I looked at the Vivoactive, but decided to spend the extra money for this watch and the sapphire crystal. I also did not like the style of the VA. So far, I am very pleased with it except for transferring data. Battery life is good. I can go almost a week before a charge and I have the GPS on and it is always connected to my cell phone. The Bluetooth notifications become annoying when you are out of range. Not strong enough to wake me up. I think going through the menus could be easier. Getting it off the charger is a pain. But overall I don't regret spending the extra money when it was on sale.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Garmin Fenix Sapphire Multisport Watch The watch has great reviews and is well thought of. I am finding the learning curve slow. There is no manual - the online manual is quirky and it took 1 1/2 hours of a telephone link with support to link the watch via bluetooth with my phone. The App for this only has two stars and tech support nearly threw in towel and offered to get me a replacement watch. I hope with patience that I may enjoy this watch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Functional beauty. I was going back and forth with a couple of different smart watches/fitness trackers and kept coming back to this one. Finally took the plunge and couldn't be happier. It's a perfect all-in-one piece. Love the app that connects to your smartphone and everything it comes equipped with. For anyone looking for a good overall functional device you'd be hard pressed to do better than this. Plus I've gotten compliments on it's esthetics. Highly recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Versatile sports watch, rugged and handsome The Fenix 3 is a great device for outdoor/fitness enthusiasts. I gave it 4 stars because the smart watch capabilities are still lacking. There is no volume control on iOS devices and you need to keep the Garmin mobile app running in the background to check the weather. If you don't care for the smart watch capabilities then I recommend the Fenix 3 for its design and outdoor/fitness feautures.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from well worth the price I bike daily and use the fenix 3 to track everything form spped, heart rate, to gps distancce and map. I have also found other options to be useful like thee boromater (when the boromitor goes up the rain comes down). tracking steps and calorie use is also greaat. the only thing I would change is the band, I have arm hair, the band constantly pinches and pulls the hair.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good My first sports/fitness watch. Love it. My main uses are mountain biking and stationary bike exercise. Used in combination with fitly and linked to the phone this thing does a tremendous amount. Love seeing my bike routes and getting speed and other stats. Excellent battery life. I wish the screen was brighter without the backlight on, but that's characteristic of this type of display and there IS a backlight so it works. Negatives? Well, Garmin is a bit fast and loose with their software and there was a period after a few updates where I couldn't get it working for a while. Waited for an update, did factory resets and now it's better than ever, but really Garmin? QA should be a higher priority and more effective. Taking a star off for that. It's also too big to wear with work attire IMO, which is too bad. Overall though, I am pleased with the purchase and have gotten a lot out of the device. Would recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for fitness purposes Lots of fitness trackers, lots of smart watches on the market. However, fenix is the best for my uses: 1. Time always visible (no need to shake or jerk to trigger watch face). There are a few well thought out watch faces to choose from. 2. Run with GPS (allows you to automatically keep a run diary with lots of stats). The stats really do encourages a harder run each time. I haven't even started to explore the social competition aspect yet. 3. Battery lasting 1+week. The first week got a lot of learning and playing time, so actual battery will probably last 2 weeks - with about 2 or 3 30-min GPS weekly runs. 4. Receives HR beats from Scoche Rhythm+. Arm strap is comfortable to wear and battery lasts at least a week. After first few days of curiosity, I now only wear HR strap during runs. The at rest HR is not all that interesting anymore. 5. Good looking, waterproof watch with simple iphone notification vibrations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EXCELLENT ALL AROUND WATCH I bought this watch a few months ago and waited to write a review until after I had used it extensively. This watch is a tremendous piece of gear for those of us who love the outdoors. I live in AZ and spend a lot of time biking, climbing, hiking and playing golf. The last few months this watch has been used every day. The battery life is good and it's accuracy excellent. I know some reviewers complain about the size of the thing, but my skinny wrists really don't have a problem with it. It updates quickly and the Garmin Connect app works really well to save and record your activities. I don't use the bike feature very often because I have a Garmin 520 for that. I took the metal band off right away when I got it and use the included rubber one all the time. The sapphire glass face has taken some hits from me being clumsy and hasn't scratched one bit. For you golfers, it's accuracy is right on. I use the HR strap for some activities and there are no issues. Pricey, but worth the dough!
