Prized for portraiture, the EF 85mm f/1.8 USM from Canon is a short-telephoto prime characterized by its slightly compressed perspective for achieving flattering results. Its bright f/1.8 maximum aperture also enables isolating subjects and working with shallow depth of field techniques, and further benefits working in low-light conditions. Helping to achieve high color fidelity and contrast, a Super Spectra coating has been applied to individual elements and serves to minimize reflections, lens flare and ghosting. Additionally, a ring-type USM is employed to deliver quick and quiet autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus control.
- EF-Mount Lens/Full-Frame Format
- Aperture Range: f/1.8 to f/22

Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM Reviews
Canon EF 85mm USM Lens Dust
Purchased this as a replacement of a 5 year old same lens that got trashed on a recent photo shoot. I immediately tested it and found it acceptable so I competed the registration card. A few days later while performing my normal pre shoot maintenance I found it to be extremely dusty between the inaccessible front and rear element groups. This lens is not an L lens and therefore is not weather or dust sealed. The dust doesn't seem to affect photo quality but it is unexpected. And since I competed the registration card the lens was no longer returnable.
Perfect portrait lens
Absolutely love this lens. Exactly what I was looking for!
I'm satisfied
I bought this as a long overdue addition to my older APS-C Canon DSLR / kit lens combo thinking I would buy a full-frame / EF mount in the future. Am very pleased with its low light capability, but since it's not image stabilized, nor is my camera, I'm limited to tripod mounted use in low light. However, that's changing now that I'm upgrading camera's that has IS. Funny thing is I'm getting a RF-mount, so I'll need the EF-RF adapter now.

Excellent Lens for Portrait
Very good Bokeh and great image quality for portrait.
Great budget lens
I'm an amateur photographer but this lens has stepped up the quality of my photos. Plus it's pretty cheap compared to others.
Bit of a hobby for me / novice
I've had experience with only 35mm film cameras since 1991and digital photography is quite new to me. To be honest, this is the first 85mm lens to own in all these years as me being an artist. I don't have much experience with many different types of camera lenses. I'm now interested in portrait photography. For my lens review, I'll say that I'm in the process of getting used to this new 85mm lens; I'm working with still-life portraits as a starting point before I take portraits of people. Im using a stuffed rabbit as my portrait subject. I've noticed that you need a very steady hand or a tripod for serious portrait photography. For myself, all it takes for me is to get used to the new 85mm lens and I'm just having fun with the process of learning to use my new lens for picture taking. Overall I love this new lens. Very happy with my decision to purchase this lens. Im only a novice, but I have a great love for photography as an art form.
