The iKlip A/V from IK Multimedia is a sturdy handheld grip for smartphones that features a built-in microphone preamp as part of its construction. It comes stocked with a side clip for wireless systems, should you choose to utilize those. Conversely, you can opt to plug a microphone straight into the iKlip's XLR input, and once connected, connect the microphone into your smartphone's mini-jack via a 1/8" cable. The unit runs on two AA batteries.

Don't let the lower-case "i" in the name fool you: the adjustable vice grip is compatible with android devices, iOS devices, or any smartphone with a screen size between 3.5" and 6". Its preamp supports 48V phantom power and sports controls to change the gain, thus allowing the smartphone holder to control the volume of the microphone in use. Such a feature renders this unit suitable for on-the-go reporting, improved home videography, and the burgeoning business of the iPhone motion picture. With two AA batteries, it can last between 20 to 60 hours at a clip, depending on whether or not you're using phantom power.

iKlip A/V Smartphone Grip with Integrated Mic Preamp is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Close but no banana Unfortunately the headphone output was not functioning on the one I received. I waslooking for a solution to use my pro wireless microphones and shotguns when using my iphone 7 plus for live streaming. Overall idea is nice. But build is kind of cheap. The actual clamp to hold your iPhone is all plastic and a joke. The plastic threads will never last. You'll have to shell out another $16 to get a decent all metal one. Also no cold shoe to mount a shotgun or wireless. What where they thinking? Also no threaded hard points for other accessories. Not a well thought out solution. They should get some input from professionals next time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from iKlip A/V Smartphone Grip I bought this device to solve two issues when shooting with an iPhone: 1) Provide a reasonably good audio interface that included an XLR input 2) Provide a good working grip when shooting both handheld and on a tripod . . . and I must say it does both these things pretty well. I am using it with an iPhone 6s Plus, and the holder is large enough to comfortable hold the camera even with a case on it. Thumbs up. The overall build quality is better than I expected, and seems appropriate to the price. Thumbs up. The audio interface is reasonable for this price point, I tested with both a Sony ECM 77B drawing phantom power from the iKlip, an EV RE50N/D dynamic mic, and Sennheiser G3 wireless pack and the audio is certainly clean enough. Thumbs up. Minor complaints - There is no locking mechanism on the female XLR chassis mount input connector. I prefer to mount the iPhone with the home button on the handle side of the grip, meaning I had to stretch the supplied audio cable to go from the far end of the grip to the input point of the iPhone. The mount of the wireless receiver seems a little on the flimsy side, it will be interesting to see how long it lasts before it gives way in real world usage. And a more serious complaint - oddly there is no provision for any additional mounting points on the grip. A cold shoe (or two or three) or more 1/4 20 holes on the grip would be appreciated - I'd like to use a short shotgun with the grip - now I'll have to Macgyver a mount on the grip to add it. In summary - money well spent, a couple of more features would give it 5 stars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well. Needs LED meter to set audio level. For someone looking to make an interim step to having good audio with a smartphone or tablet using a big boy XLR mic instead of an audio hack, and can't yet afford to go to a prosumer camcorder with XLR audio inputs (like a Canon XA35, etc.) this is the ticket. I use it with a Electro-Voice 635A on either a smartphone for run and gun or a table on a tripod for interviews, and you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between our audio/video output and a traditional news gathering rig. One negative that dinged it one star: there is no easy way to see audio level when adjusting the gain control without a headset or smartphone/tablet plugin. An LED audio level meter would make it perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Adding cold shoes and a grip for the left hand An inexpensive camcorder L-grip solves the problem of adding cold shoes for accessories such as mounting a microphone or video light. It attaches to the tripod mount and provides a grip on the left side of the iKlip in addition to the iKlip's grip for the right hand.
