Aston Microphones Origin overview

  • 1Description

The Aston Origin is a cardioid condenser microphone that utilizes a 1” gold-evaporated capsule. It is versatile enough to use with most instruments, such as acoustic guitar and strings, and sounds great on vocals. Its hand-selected capsule is combined with transformer-less circuitry to deliver accurate sound reproduction.

The mic has a mesh-knit pop filter built into the wave-form head. The weave allows sound to pass while reducing unwanted plosives. This single-piece mesh cage is formed in stainless steel, so it won't rust with use and can even be removed and washed.

  • Custom-molded end caps with integrated XLR and stand adapter
  • Harmonized circuit-stage arrangement for easy integration from phantom-power input circuitry to capsule voltage bias
  • Non-linear voltage/current-source rectification to provide controlled amplification and smooth/clear audio

    Aston Microphones Origin reviews

Origin Cardioid Condenser Microphone is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooth, Clear Sound You couldn't ask for a much better microphone without spending double or triple what this one costs. Before buying I listened to some YouTube condenser microphone tests, try it yourself. I only use it for recording voices but the audio quality is excellent. The only complaint I have is that the built-in mesh pop filter doesn't block P, T, F, B, etc. plosives but I didn't expect it to work as well as a traditional filter, and I certainly didn't choose this mic for that feature. I got the free shock mount in the mail as well and it is very good quality. I'm quite satisfied.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for drum overheads! These mics are amazing on just about anything but truly excel as drum over heads (ORTF, Glyn Johns or spaced pair.) They punch well above their weight and compare favorably with many mics over $1000 - Neumann, AKG, etc. Crazy value for money. Get a pair and you won't be disappointed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! This microphone is incredible. I have many more expensive large diaphragm condensers that I haven't touched since buying this from B&H. Also, it looks awesome, and gets plenty of compliments in my studio. It's crazy to be able to compare a $250 microphone to others that cost 10 times more - but you can with the Aston Origin!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's a good Mic I bought a pair of these as drum overheads after listening to a review on youtube. I've been using them as drum overheads for about a year now. I still think they do an excellent job. Although I usually close mic the whole drum kit, I've been experimenting with a 4 mic drum technique with just the kik and snare close mic'ed. After a little experimenting, I have found the Origins to work really well in this application. I've also tried using them on acoustic guitar and vocals. Results have been good, but they seem slightly harsh sounding on the top end; very usable but not my new favorite. You kind of get what you pay for when it comes to microphones but these mics really are an excellent value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Game Changer I bought a pair of these for drum overheads. They were replacing a pair of SDC AT-4041's that I used to use. These have completely opened up the sound. For certain types of music, I no longer feel compelled to direct mic the toms. These do a great job of picking up the whole drum kit. They sound nice and open on acoustic guitars, too. Easily worth every penny of their cost.
