Voigtlander 10mm f/5.6 Hyper Wide Heliar Asph... Overview

Offering an incredibly wide field of view while maintaining a rectilinear design, the Heliar-Hyper Wide 10mm f/5.6 Aspherical Lens from Voigtlander is dedicated to full-frame Sony E-mount cameras, and features an updated Heliar design to limit distortion and maintain consistent sharpness and illumination to suit mirrorless camera designs. One aspherical element is employed in the 13 elements, 10 groups optical design to control spherical aberrations and distortions throughout the aperture range. The lens also uses a manual focus design to permit fine-tuned control over focus placement, with a minimum focusing distance of 11.8", and a Selective Aperture Control System allows you to de-click the manual aperture ring for smooth, silent exposure adjustment to suit filmmaking applications.

Incredibly wide 10mm focal length lens is designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 130° angle of view. It is also compatible with APS-C models where it will produce a 15mm equivalent focal length.
Rectilinear (non-fisheye) design maintains straight lines toward the periphery of the frame for a more realistic portrayal of architectural and other geometrically complex subjects.
Updated Heliar optical design helps to maintain consistent peripheral illumination, eliminate color fringing, and reduce distortion; making it ideal for use with mirrorless digital cameras.
One aspherical element is featured in the optical design to control spherical aberrations and improve clarity, sharpness, and resolution.
Manual focus design permits smooth, refined control along with a minimum focusing distance of 11.8".
Selective Aperture Control System produces a stepless, de-clicked aperture ring, which provides silent and smooth exposure adjustment that is well-suited for video application. The aperture ring can also be configured to utilize traditional 1/3-stop clicks for more intuitive tactile control over exposure settings.
Ten-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth quality of bokeh.
Built-in lens hood guards the front lens element and also helps to control lens flare and ghosting.
Contacts transfer all Exif data between the camera and lens in order to permit full use of camera functions, including focus magnification, image stabilization, and lens corrections.

This lens is awesome - integrates completely wit the A7RIII - for a 10mm its sharpness is great around the edges. I just did a 5 exposure HDR shot and the colors are amazing. Great Lens - small and sturdy. Very satisfied.

Neat lens when it works... horrible horrible warranty. Avoid

I've had the opportunity to play with two of these lenses. The first that I purchased was front-focusing. While that doesn't matter on a manual lens, I was incapable of focusing to infinity for landscape images so I returned it. The next one I got was back focusing - minimal focus distance was shifted wrong. Unfortunately I was traveling so I passed the 30 days return policy and ended up stuck with a faulty product. I thought to myself: hey, no worries - It's under warranty. No biggy. It's now 4 months later I sent it in and not only do I not have any receipt or confirmation from the place that takes care of the warranty there's absolutely zero semblance of a projected time estimation for repairs, how long it'll take to repair and when I'll receive it. I've followed up almost once every month to see where it's at and it's always the same reply: Sorry it's out of our control. So not only do I end up with a dysfunctional product, I'm basically left without a working lens for longer than I've owned it for. If you luck out and get a solid version, kudos on you - but if something goes wrong, you may never see your lens ever again.

Worth the G if you have the funds.

Love it so far.

It is a manual focus (Not very important since at 10mm every thing tends to be in focus). It is good for special occasions since all objects tend to be too far away. It automatically corrects for main horizon distortion although it is visible in nearby objects.

great lens

It's worth the price I paid for it, though it falls short of my standards.

This lens is very fun / frustrating / interesting to use. It's so wide, keeping the tripod legs out of the shot is sometimes a challenge. But I love the results! Very solidly built, sharp across the field, works perfectly with the A7riii. Another great tool in the bag.

question

Can this lens accept filters? I assume not, but a confirmation would be nice.
Asked by: Anonymous
No you need a filter holder from NISI that fits on the front BUT with all camera makers Haida Filters has a rear adapter that will hold some filters. Lastly Sony A7 models mod 2 and below have on camera apps and a Filters app has three section adjustable areas and does the processing in camera great for Milky Ways over a lit runway or town.

question

Is there a hard infinity stop, or this lens can focus past infinity?
Asked by: Anonymous
The extreme wide lens does barely need focusing, at 5.6 everything is in focus from 2ft to infinity and you can use hyperfocal to even increase the depth of field. See photo of the lens.
