Olympus ECG-4 reviews

ECG-4 External Metal Grip for PEN-F (Black) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not a Must Have For Me I recently purchased the Pen-F, after waiting patiently for a end-of-year promotional offer, and all that came along was a 'buy the camera and get this grip for free' deal. Didn't really think I would need it, and after handling the Pen-F for a while with and without the grip, I find the grip to be unnecessary. I do have smaller hands, so perhaps a person with bigger hands would feel differently. The grip is built like a tank, and is correspondingly heavy. No handling benefit (for me), less convenience and more weight means this beast will stay at home. Two stars because it is well made and perhaps beneficial for bigger handed shooters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much needed This grip is a much needed accessory for the Pen-F. I'm one of those guys that carry my camera around in my hand and this grip gives a much more secure feel. There's no perfection in this world however; when the grip is attached it's almost impossible to remove the SD card. I'd almost given up when I realized that if the battery was removed first then I could get enough purchase on the card to get it out, even with my big clumsy fingers. I would definitely recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You need it for street photography When I'm on the street I carry the camera in my right hand after making two turns around my wrist with the strap. Without the grip you can hang on to the camera this way but it's a heck of a log easier with the grip. The grip can keep you from muscle cramps and keep the camera from slipping out of your hand when you lift it quickly

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Necessity for Longer Lenses I tried using the PEN-F without this grip for several days and found the handling acceptable when using small and light lenses. When using longer and heavier lenses, this grip made holding the camera much easier, especially when carrying the camera. I especially liked the Arca-Swiss compatibility since I use Arca-Swiss quick release clamps on all my tripod heads. I only wish this grip could have included an Arca-Swiss bracket to cover vertical (portrait) shots. But, due to the PEN-F's swiveling monitor (as opposed to the tilting design), it would be very difficult to include a portrait bracket into the grip. Otherwise, the grip is very well made and rigid.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Olympus Grip Love the way it allows you to hold the camera. Two small items. You need a allen wrench to remove or install it. Its also hard to get the card out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well made. Necessary for many. This grip is well made and if you, like me, find the Pen-F just a tiny bit too small, or you use the larger lenses (12-40, 12mm 1.4, Nocticron), then this grip is a must. It doesn't add tmuch bulk to the package, but enables a much more comfortable grip on the camera. A little pricey, perhaps, but in the end worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get a grip Very satisfied. Sold, perfectly balanced. Does not add much girth or additional weight.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Exceptionally well made Solid metal build will last forever. If you like the over-engineered feeling in your camera equipment, you?ll love this grip. Adds a lot of comfort and control. HOWEVER, like some of the other reviewers have mentioned, the battery compartment becomes so recessed that it?s nearly impossible to remove the memory card. You?ll eventually figure out the best way to remove it for your size fingers, but it is a true annoyance. I looked for alternatives, but didn?t find anything that is as well built. If you have the M.Zuiko 12-200mm as your walkabout lens, the grip of the lens may be enough to satisfy your desire for the additional stability of this grip. The grip came bundled with the camera body and I didn?t get the lens until much later. So if you?re considering that lens, you may want to wait before purchasing this grip.
