question

I need to travel with this lighting kit. What are the reviews checking kit on an airline? I worry about the risks
Asked by: Kelsey H.
Being that this kit has a hard case for air travel, it can easily/safety be stored below a plane. However, you cannot pack V mount batteries in the same case, but rather they need to be carried on. It is always best to check the particular airline you're using for any restrictions that might apply.

question

Can owners of these lights tell us what batteries they use with them? They're a higher draw then most LED's and I've been finding even 10Ah batt's die before an hour of use. Thanks
Asked by: geoffcam
Hi! I have three of these and are my main lighting component whenever I shoot digital film. Consider that their draw is 106 watts, so you can calculate the duration of a battery based on the battery's Wh capacity. So, a 150 Wh battery would last for about 84 minutes. Because of this, it can be particularly bothersome, definitely expensive, and sometimes even dangerous, to keep changing their batteries that often. So, when power is not available on location, I decided to connect each one of my lights to a Goal Zero Yeti 400 portable battery/generator (Make sure you get the lithium one). This gives you about 4 hours of operation per light, which so far, has been enough running time on every shoot I've done since I got them. Yes, you are looking at investing some $ here, I understand that. I ended up spending about $1800 ($600 per Goal Zero generator x 3). But if you consider the price of a battery adapter for the Astra, plus the batteries that you'd need to buy to get that running time, PLUS the cost of having to swap them often on your shoot, it's really a no-brainer. At least, to me it really made no financial/logistical sense. Hope this helps!!! :)

question

Does any P-Tap output battery work?
Asked by: Andrew Y.
Hi Andrew, I would think so as long as the power out specs match the Astra requirements. I use Anton-Baur Digital 90s. Love my Astra's but get the DoP soft boxes and grids, not the ones made by Chimera.

question

Anyone have experience putting these in a SnapBag or Chimera built for them? Curious if the Soft Astra has advantages in a soft box over the regular Astras.
Asked by: noah
I use this one as is, without any softbox, and love it. It gives a far stonger ans softer light than the regular astras.

In regards to the LEDs, The original 1x1 uses 5mm LED technology while the Astra famliy has updated Surface Mount LED technology which allows for fuller color spectrum and greater output. The Astra's LEDs are paired with custom optics that allow for a longer throw of illumination and a even beam spread from end to end with a even fall off. Astra was developed with a modular concept that allows users to update their light to meet their shooting needs such as Battery plates, Communications Modules (for DMX or wireless control via Bluetooth)

question

I thought I knew math; what exactly does 1x brighter mean?
Asked by: chris m.
The E has the comparable output to the original Litepanels 1x1 while the color rendition has improved with the new LED technology and offers a modular concept by having the ability to add Bluetooth/DMX
