  • 1Description

The 8TB NAS Internal HDD (OEM) from Seagate is a large capacity hard drive designed for use in small NAS systems including home servers or desktop NAS solutions, small-business file sharing, backup servers and more. While this drive is designed to be used in small NAS configurations, you can also utilize this drive in a single drive configuration as it comes with sufficient storage to save a variety of files including videos, music, photos, documents and more. Along with enhanced storage capacity, you also benefit from a 256MB multisegmented cache along with a SATA 6 Gb/s interface for fast, efficient data transfers.

NASWorks technology supports customized error recovery controls, power management and vibration tolerance for optimal performance and reliability in a 1- to 8-bay solution
NAS error recovery controls optimize drive health by helping to ensure drives are not dropped from the NAS and sent into a RAID rebuild
Improved vibration tolerance and emission in multi-drive systems with dual-plane balance
Advanced power management supports multiple power profiles for low-power, 24×7 performance
Enhanced performance with NASWorks balances sequential and random performance, ideal for both small business and personal profiles
Quiet drive operation enhances customer experience in living room or office environments
8TB drives offer high capacity in purpose-built NAS storage

    Seagate ST8000VN0002 reviews

8TB NAS SATA III 3.5" Internal HDD (OEM) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Hums very loudly in all orientations I have many 4tb Seagate NAS drives running and they're all great--fast and run cool, and normal sounding. This 8tb version is different. I've tried 3 drives both mounted horizontally in a Drobo and vertically in a Synology. All 3 hummed quite loudly when idle, to the point of sounding broken. The sound goes away when they're active. But when idle they're really too loud to be in a house and I'm fearful the vibration would be a long term problem. They had to be returned. BH did take them back without any fuss.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good drives, but watch their spatial orientation I am writing about the 8 GB Seagate NAS drive: ST8000VN0002 The drive appears to be solid except for a major issue that is related to how it is mounted. With many SAN systems, the disks are designed to be mounted perpendicular to the chassis. This disk incorporates a different writing/reading mechanism than the 6 TB and lower-sized drives of the same brand. As a result, if it's put on its side (such as with many NAS bays), the motor vibrates slightly and you hear a very annoying noise when the spindle is rotating. This noise comes and goes, but in general, vibrational noise decreases the drive's life expectancy. This noise does not occur when the drives are level to the ground. The disk is listed as compatible with many NAS devices, but if you use a device with a perpendicularly-oriented drive system, choose another reading/writing technology. Do not chose a disk with any type of perpendicular recording for an array like the Synology 1815+. Seagate's NAS solutions that employ horizonally-oriented drives are a great fit for this disk, as are many of QNAP's devices. This disk is best suited for smaller drive-count enclosures with less than 6 disks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fantastic! Super large capacity and after pounding on them for a couple of weeks with initial data migration they are standing up well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid performing hard. Our servers come with Seagate HDD so this was the logical choice when choosing a hard drive for a new NAS setup. Seagate drives have always proven to be solid durable drives. I hope Seagate's NAS version proves to be just as durable.
