This high-performance edit workstation is put together by B&H for post-production work using Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve Studio. The workstation features 18TB of external RAID storage, dual 10-core CPUs, and a 4K video capture and output card.

A full software license for DaVinci Resolve Studio is provided. Resolve is no longer just advanced color correction software, but a full-fledged non-linear editing system - it even allows to you to import projects from other NLEs, such as from Premiere Pro, as XML files. You can edit, color correct, finish, and deliver all from one system. Moreover, Resolve is highly sophisticated and oriented at the same time toward the individual user, large collaborative teams, and the growing studio owner.

At the heart of this system is an HP Z840 Minitower Workstation, upgraded with a total of two 2.2 GHz Intel Xeon E5-2650 v4 10-Core processors and 64GB of RAM. To provide the GPU acceleration that DaVinci Resolve requires, the workstation features dual HP Quadro M4000 graphics cards, each with 8GB of GDDR5 RAM. A natively installed 512GB PCIe SSD drive is provided to hold Windows and all of its applications. While an SSD may not have the larger storage capacity of a traditional spinning hard drive, it does provide faster boot times as well as faster application launching, especially since it uses a PCIe connection as compared to a SATA connection. For ample media storage without encroaching on performance, an 18TB Thunderbolt 2 RAID array is included.

For monitoring and video capture, a Blackmagic Design DeckLink Extreme 4K card is included. It features two multi-rate 12G-SDI inputs and outputs that accept resolutions from SD up to DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) at 60 fps. The card supports 10-bit YUV and 8-, 10-, and 12-bit RGB color, as well as up/down/cross conversions and 3D stereoscopic output at full bandwidth 4:4:4:4 RGB. Additionally, the card supports AES/EBU balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs/outputs, analog video I/O, reference input, and RS-422 control via an included breakout cable.

For importing media files off of memory cards, the computer is equipped with a 15-in-1 internal card reader that supports CompactFlash, SD, MemoryStick, and more.

    Within the Z Series, the Z840 Series Rackable Minitower Workstation from HP delivers extreme performance in a rackable minitower form factor. The Z840 is designed for professionals who require high reliability and is well suited for tasks such as intensive graphics, 3D rendering, multimedia, and gaming, as well as science and engineering applications. The system is powered by a 2.2 GHz Intel Xeon E5-2630 v4 Ten-Core processor and 25MB of Intel Smart Cache, all of which will allow you to run multiple applications simultaneously and provide significant performance gains when running multi-threaded tasks. This storage array's Thunderbolt 2 interface offers high-speed connectivity. The Pegasus2 R6 stores up to 18TB of data spread across six 3TB 7200 rpm SATA drives. Actual storage capacity will differ according to the RAID configuration. These drives are hot-swappable for easy access and come pre-configured in RAID 5 mode, which is optimized for data protection, capacity, and performance.
