Canon LP-E19 Reviews

Congrats to B&H

The battery, of course, is top notch. With all the production and supply chain issues, they've been almost impossible to get your hands on. The moment B&H got a supply, I got my e-mail notice, and immediately placed an order. The package was in my mailbox in just a couple of days.

Good battery, not so good form

In 2021, after being a Nikon SLR and then DSLR shooter for 50 years, I sold my Nikon gear and ordered two Canon EOS R3 mirrorless cameras. My experience with both brands had led me to compare how the two competing brands do things. My last two Nikon DSLRs were the D4S and D5. The size and shape of their battery was very similar to the Canon LP-E19 - except for one big difference. The Canon battery includes bodywork to match the bottom end of the cameras it fits, whereas the Nikon end cap detaches from the battery. It is a detachable part of the camera. The battery attaches to that, and then the battery and end cap assembly attaches to the camera. That means that extra Nikon batteries take up less space. The more spare batteries you take on your shoot, the less space they take. I prefer Nikon's more efficient design. Then there is the placement of the on/off switch on Canon's versus Nikon's pro bodies, but that is a topic for another day.

Works exactly like the factory Canon battery. No problems with charger, or the camera acknowledging the battery on the battery menu. Completely transparent.

Real Deal

This of course is a genuine Canon battery and does everything you'd expect. The big difference is the B&H service. When I first went to order this it was out of stock. So I clicked the update me when they are available. Every couple of weeks I received an email that B&H hadn't forgotten me but the battery was still out of stock. As soon as the battery was available I got an email letting me know. You might ask why not buy from another source but B&H had the best price, as usual, fortunately I wasn't in a hurry either.

Must have for my R3!

There is not much to say about this Canon LP-E19 other than it provides the performance and quality one would expect from Canon. I was glad that I got my hands on one after B&H advised me via email (thx!!!) they had a few in stock and I needed a spare for my new R3. I know there are aftermarket alternatives that are cheaper but I prefer to stick with OEM products especially these batteries. As they become readily available, I will purchase more.

Came in earlier than expected (supply chain issues). It's a battery.

Will the LP-E19 battery work with the R5 or R6 ...

Will the LP-E19 battery work with the R5 or R6 using the battery grip in place of the dual batter tray?
Asked by: Kevin
Of course the normal batteries work in it. Nikons single battery for pro bodies works in the full frame body grips thats why I asked. After comparing the end cap to the end cap in the R5/R6 I can see its a different shape.

Will it fit in EOS R3?
Asked by: Venkatesh
I do not have the camera in hand yet, but the specs read that the EOS R3 will use the same battery as the EOS 1DX III which I also have. I plan to try the battery once it arrives.

My LP-E19 battery self -discharge when left in my 1DXII .It happens after I calibrated it before recharging. Is there a way to reverse it?
Asked by: Hans
According to Canon, the charger will fully deplete the LP-E19 then fully charge it when utilizing the calibration process. This process can take about 18-19 hours to complete and should only be performed with an almost exhausted battery.

It looks like the same form factor as my 1D mark iii, mark iv, and X batteries. Will my existing batteries still work?
Asked by: Anonymous
(cross posting). The batteries are interchangeable. The LP-E4 and LP-E19 have the same form factor and contacts. The LP-E4 will work in the 1DX Mark II at reduced camera performance. You can use the LP-E19 backward to the 1D Mark III but to get full battery performance you need the new charger. Otherwise the old charger will only charge to the performance level of the LP-E4 that it was designed for. Read about it by searching for canon lp-e19 charging with old charger that will go to the Canon learning article.

Do I need a second battery? How long does the first one last?
Asked by: Anonymous
One battery can last you all weekend but it all depends on what type of lens, weather, live viewing, etc., which can reduce it. estimates of a couple thousand seem to match mine. I don't have a car battery charger(is there one?) and so you don't have a backup you are really out of luck. I carry two backups and may get another bc I don't always have access to a socket to recharge.
