dbx 555 overview

  • 1Description

The 555 5-Band Parametric EQ gives full-spectrum, low-noise equalization for each band, with gain, center frequency, and bandwidth control. dbx designed the 555 with peak/dip filters, which provide progressively less effect on frequencies as you move farther from the passband, generating a cleaner signal.

Each band's center frequency can be adjusted from 10 Hz to 20 kHz and can be boosted up to 12 dB or attenuated up to 15 dB. By selecting one of three multipliers via a slide switch, dbx offers full spectrum manipulation for each band, expanding down to 10 Hz and up to 20 kHz. The 555 earns its status as a full parametric EQ primarily by including variable bandwidth, which ranges from .03 to 2.0 octaves.

A low-noise and low-distortion Op amp is used for delivering clean audio. The Op amp's fast reaction time to input signals enables more accurate high frequencies, for a high-end consistency from input to output.

By using each band's on/off switch, you can add or remove equalization, thus obtaining more refined, subtle processing. The global mute button facilitates A/B-ing your direct sound to your modified sound. There is a master output control with LEDs defining output level, and bypass mode status.

The dbx 555 is a modular device occupying two slots in a 500 series rack, and can be used with a variety of rack mounted and standalone power units from dbx. Due to its mobile and stationary possibilities, the 555 is suitable for studio and live applications
