Xcellon USB-EC3 overview

  • 1Description

Expand the connectivity options on your notebook or desktop with the 3-Port USB 3.0 Type-C Hub with Gigabit Ethernet Port from Xcellon. This hub connects to your Windows, Mac, and Linux systems via an integrated 7.3" cable that sports a USB 3.0 Type-C connector, which features a reversible design so you can connect the first try. It provides three USB 3.0 Type-A data ports as well as a Gigabit Ethernet port utilizing your system's single USB 3.0 port. This setup lets you quickly hook up printers, mice, and other USB devices to your computer.

Each of the three USB 3.0 ports transmits data at a combined rate of up to 5 Gb/s and provides 0.9A of power. To quickly and reliably access the Internet and networks, the Gigabit Ethernet port supports full-duplex operation and 10/100/1000 speeds.

For portability, the hub draws power from a USB bus-powered port without the need for carrying an external power adapter. An LED status indicator is on board to notify you that the hub is receiving power. Furthermore, Xcellon has outfitted the adapter with a compact aluminum housing that protects it and lets you easily take it on your travels.

Ethernet Connection
Ideal for laptop models equipped with USB-C ports, the USB-EC3 adds a reliable, wired Gigabit Ethernet connection to the Internet. You can connect to the Internet with this easy-to-use hub in locations where there is no Wi-Fi signal, even if your computer doesn't have an Ethernet port.
Expanded Connectivity
With a single connection to your computer's USB port, the USB-EC3 provides a single Ethernet port for a wired connection to the Internet and three integrated USB ports so you can connect your peripherals. 1
Supports USB 3.0/2.0/1.1
The adapter supports SuperSpeed USB with data transfer speeds up to 5 Gb/s. Backwards compatibility with Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 allow greater support with older systems.
Full-Duplex Operation
The advantage of a wired internet connection is sending and receiving data at the same time, thanks to full-duplex support. The USB-EC3 hub provides you with a wired connection that assures you fast data transfer speeds, letting you stream HD content smoothly and game without lag.
Bus Powered
The USB-EC3 uses the power from your USB port. No other power source is necessary. Just plug it in to a powered USB port on your computer, and you're ready to go.
Compact Aluminum Housing
The compact aluminum housing can withstand the rigors of travel whether you carry the adapter in a computer bag or in your pocket.
LED Status Indicator
The blue LED indicator lets you know that the hub is receiving power.
Windows/Mac/Linux Compatible
The hub can be used with a wide variety of operating systems. Simple instructions are included for downloading and installing the drivers for Windows, Mac, or Linux operating systems.

    Xcellon USB-EC3 reviews

3-Port USB 3.0 Type-C Hub with Gigabit Ethernet Port is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Review Edit 3 star to 5 star - Works with late '16 MBP Unfortunately I cannot edit my last 3 star review that mentioned an issue with WIFI. The vendor actually patched this as of 1/18/17 and it works great, excellent speeds and no wifi issues. Xcellon also has great customer service, they actually reached out to me when the driver was ready which was awesome.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of Money This hub when connected to the USB-c ports on the new MacbookPro put the macbook wireless down. I could not found any information or support from Xcellon, nor any driver update to solve the issue. I tried to connect my Epson printer and as soon connected the wireless stop to work and is not possible to install the driver (from Epson server). The external hdd connect but also the wireless stop to work. I'm out of US otherwise I will get rid of this product and return it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Update to my 12/12/2017 Review This is an update to my earlier review. I purchased a different gadget to connect to my Type-C connector on my Dell laptop; it went all the way in. It turns out that the Type-C connector of the Xcellon 3-Port USB 3.0 Type-C would only go half-way in; thus, probably the reason it did not work. The connector on the Xcellon must have been defective a sign of flimsiness. And the reason that the USB drive appeared twice on Windows Explorer is because that is the strange way that Windows 10 displays it. I discovered the latter fact by searching the web and found many other people who also thought they had a problem; but it was the confusing way that Windows 10 shows its drives (on the left margin). The bottom line is that the Xcellon had a defective connector, thus the low rating by me; it made me waste a lot of time. The good thing is that B&H allowed me to return it, as it was defective.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Handy for USB devices to new Macbook's USB-C This complements my purchase of a MacBook Pro that has only USB-C type of ports. Even though the USB-C supports higher transfer rate, my other devices (Card reader, External Drive etc) are USB 3.0 so I do need this a port conversion and this device works very well. I am also using its Ethernet port while at home. You would simply connect this USB-C connector to the MacBook Pro's USB-C port and you are ready to go. It has a tiny blue indicator light, elegant in while color and attractively designed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Library and samples I use this as the main hub for a sample and synth library as well as project files and other. It's super fast and comes with an ethernet connector if you end up at a budget hotel or do cat5 work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tool. Works great. Love it. Works amazing and perfectly fine. Would recommend not to fold the cable because it could get damage with time.
