Yamaha TIO1608-D Overview

Designed to work remotely with Yamaha TF-series consoles, the Tio1608-D is a preamp, I/O rack, and stage box. It uses Dante protocol to transmit multiple channels of audio from the stage to the console over one solitary ethernet cable.

In the purely analog realm, this operation would require a rat's nest of cables or a cumbersome snake; the Tio1608-D's Dante capabilities eliminate the cable clutter. It accomplishes this feat with a low-latency, high-quality transfer of analog signal to digital information—in this case at a sample rate of either 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz, and at a resolution of 24-bit or 32-bit.

This particular stage box provides 16x input channels and 8x output channels for communication via Dante to TF-series consoles; however, you can daisy chain up to three Tio1608-D's simultaneously, resulting in a stage box system of 48x inputs and 24x outputs with one to three cables running to the console, depending on how you rig it.

Front-Panel Overview

The preamp itself sports 16x combo XLR/TRS jacks (all supporting 48V phantom power) and 8x XLR output jacks. A Quick Config switch allows you to interface automatically with TF-series consoles.

Rear-Panel Overview

At the rear of the unit, a fan switch allows you to change the speed of the internal cooling system, while a series of DIP switches determine the unit's startup mode. You'll also notice only two CAT5e connection points: Primary, which is for direct connection to your Dante-enabled console, and Secondary, which is utilized for daisy chaining scenarios.

Can I turn on phantom power for each input ...

Can I turn on phantom power for each input remotely (with an app) if I don't have a console - or is there a DIP switch setting that would turn it on for all inputs?
Asked by: David
There is no mobile app. Indiivdual phantom power input control is not possible except as described below: [+48V] indicators: These indicators light when +48 V phantom power is turned on for the corresponding input channels. You can use a compatible mixing console or other device to turn phantom power on and off If the [+48V MASTER] switch is turned off, no phantom power will be supplied even if phantom power is turned on for individual channels (although the +48V indicators will still flash). +48V DC (phantom power) can be supplied to INPUT XLR type connectors via each individual software controlled switch.

question

Does iOS Stagemix software app work with this or do you need a TF console to use it?
Asked by: Ikaika
You do need a need a TF series console to control the Tio1608-D. The StageMix app will provide wireless control of a TF series console, and the console can be used to remotely control the Tio1608-D. You are not able to use StageMix alone to control the Tio1608-D.

question

since this is dante can it be used simply as a stage box with any system, or is there some reason it needs a TF console?
Asked by: Anonymous
If you are good with Dante networking it can be used with any system. All preconfigurations are built for the TF system only. But you can make and build your network without them.

question

Does the TIO1608-D work with Yamaha CL or QL consoles? Would seem to be a budget option to the RIO boxes.
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, according to Yamaha, the Tio1608-D is compatible with the CL/QL consoles. However, keep in mind that the Tio uses D-PRE preamps instead of the PM style preamps available in the R series interfaces.
