The 2220 Series AP-224 Indoor Dual-Radio Wireless Access Point from aruba delivers gigabit Wi-Fi performance to 802.11ac mobile devices. This dual-radio access point (AP) offers maximum data rates of up to 1.3 Gb/s in the 5 GHz band (802.11ac) and 600 Mb/s in the 2.4 GHz band (802.11n). Each radio supports 3x3 MIMO with three spatial streams. The unit has three RP-SMA connectors for external dual-band antennas. In addition to 802.11n data rates, the 2.4 GHz radio supports 802.11ac data rates using 256-QAM modulation. This gives the TurboQAM-enabled clients a 33% boost above the maximum supported data rate.

For large installations across multiple sites, the aruba Activate service significantly reduces deployment time by automating device provisioning, firmware upgrades, and inventory management. If WLAN and network requirements change, a built-in migration path allows this AP to become part of a WLAN that is centrally managed by a Mobility Controller.

The Wireless AP comes integrated with aruba ClientMatch technology that ensures consistently high performance across the WLAN infrastructure. This technology eliminates sticky clients by continuously gathering session performance metrics from mobile devices, which is then used to steer each mobile device to a better AP and radio on the WLAN. ClientMatch dynamically optimizes Wi-Fi client performance as users roam and RF conditions change. If a mobile device moves out of range of an AP or RF interference impedes performance, ClientMatch automatically steers it to a better AP.

With ClientMatch, this AP loads web pages faster, delivers video streams with improved quality, and supports high densities of mobile devices. This AP additionally supports priority handling and policy enforcement for individual Microsoft Lync media on the same device, including encrypted video conferencing, voice chat, and desktop sharing.

The access point allows phased wired infrastructure upgrades by adapting to the available 802.3af Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) without upgrading to 802.3at PoE+.
EtherChannel link aggregation on two Gigabit Ethernet ports provides 1.9 Gb/s throughput.
It supports up to 600 Mb/s for TurboQAM-enabled mobile devices operating in the 2.4 GHz band.
Integrated Adaptive Radio Management technology manages both the radio bands (2.4 and 5 GHz) and ensures that the access point stays clear of all sources of RF interference.
Capable of part-time or dedicated air-monitoring, the spectrum analyzer remotely scans the radio bands to identify sources of RF interference.
Wireless mesh connections are convenient where Ethernet drops are not available.
Integrated wireless intrusion protection offers threat protection and mitigation, eliminating the need for separate RF sensors and security appliances.
With an OpenDNS service subscription (not included), this access point delivers integrated web filtering, malware, and botnet for protection to every device connected to the WLAN.
Encrypted IPsec VPN tunnels securely connect remote users to corporate network resources.
Integrated Trusted Platform Module (TPM) provides secure storage of credentials and keys and SecureJack ensures secure tunneling of wired Ethernet traffic.
