Uncompromising Optical Design

  • As part of Sony's esteemed G Master series, this lens is designed to achieve notably high resolution and sharpness through the correction of a wide variety of spherical and chromatic aberrations.
  • Of the three aspherical elements incorporated in the lens design, one is an XA element with superior surface precision to effectively reduce astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and other monochromatic aberrations from imagery.
  • One extra-low dispersion element and one Super ED element are featured in the lens design and help to control chromatic aberrations and reduce color fringing for increased clarity and color fidelity.
  • Bright constant f/2.8 maximum aperture maintains consistent performance from wide-angle to telephoto focal length positions and also contributes to greater selective focus control.
  • A Nano AR Coating has been applied to reduce surface reflections, flare, and ghosting for increased contrast and color rendering in strong lighting conditions.

Fast Focusing and Reliable Performance

This lens is very very sharp and works great with the A7IV. It's fast to focus. The only issue is that it is big. Larger than I was expecting and so its not great for a walk around lens for that reason. It's the trade off though for a zoom lens that can maintain 2.8 throughout its range.

Solid, sharp image quality. It is nice to have f/2.8 on a zoom lens. The only two things I don't like is the extending barrel style for the zoom and the lack of Image Stabilization (the 70-200mm has both). For a G-Master I would have expected a little more.

before getting this lens, i ran around with the 85mm gmaster. i love it, but i just hated when i wanted to capture somethin up close especially when it was something quick i needed to capture. so i got the 24-70gmaster. this lens, man is it great. amazing build quality. perfect versatility in terms of range. definitely the only lens i need to carry with me when i'm out and about (unless i know i'm shooting portraits ONLY)

I just saw this I apologize if I am too late. This is a great lens. Clarity, speed. I'm not sure what else may be in your bag? The 24-70 F/2.8 is my go-to lens. If I were to take my camera with one lens, this is the lens I take. This is a great choice for your camera.

The camera must be set to Direct Manual Focus or DMF in order to manually adjust the focus after the autofocus has locked onto the subject.

I need a single lens for solo portraits and group shots. Is this lens good enough for this purpose?

The 24-70 2.8 GM is an awesome lens. It would work well for group portraits but not ideal for individual one-which are generally best taken with a fsst 80-135mm lens, 2.8 or better something between 1.4-2.0. You could do the individual portraits at 70mm/ 2.8. That will work best if you place your background as far away from the subject as possible so you get better separation. If you can place the subject close to the minimum focus distance at 2.8 you can also direct more attention to your subject with the apperature wide open.

I'm looking for a leather case that would work well with this lens. Preferably the original Sony leather case/pouch. Do you have any recommendations?

We currently have 2 leather case which will fit this lens. BH #KEKMBHRTLNCS and B&H# HAXALLP. This last option will have the rear lens cap expose. Unfortunately Sony does not make leather lens cases or pouch.

How does this lens handle flare? For instance, if you are using a backlight on a subject. I did a side-by-side test on two zooms that were sold as kit lenses for the Sony F7 and the Sony F7 m2. The former lens (28-135, iirc) flared like crazy, while the second one (18-110) was perfect. How does the 24-70 stack up in this classic interview situation?
