Sony FE 1.4x Teleconverter Reviews

Works well

I have the Sony A1 and the 200-600 G lens. This TC works very well giving me the reach I want with good quality.

Not all that good

From various test reports and reviews here, I expected better. But sharpness wide open with the Sony 70-200mm f/2.8 GM II, was noticeably down, and there was a kind of haze - an optical smearing of some kind that lowered the contrast. So I returned this in favor of getting a proper longer lens.

Works transparently

Gain 1.4X reach with almost no penalty in image quality and focusing speed, essentially works transparently on the 70-200 GM II, and makes it like a native 98-280 F4.0 lens

I am a sharp focus fanatic and the 1.4 tc on both my 100-400 and 200-600 works fantastic. No noticeable drop in image quality even with image cropping. You do loose some light but with the high ISO capabilities of the mirrorless cameras and Topaz DeNoise, I fear no ISO!!

Awesome TC

Lightweight, extremely slim, and does the job with very little quality loss. Highly recommend.

The adapter is compatible with Sony e-mount bodies but only certain e-mount lenses (e.g., Sony EF GM 100-400, Sony EF GM 70-200 f2.8). Check the Sony website to confirm the extender is compatible with your e-mount lens.

Art 105mm (FE, Sigma f/1.4) & this TC = any chance to work.. ?
Asked by: Alain
The Sony FE 1.4x Teleconverter, B&H # SOTC14, is specifically designed for use with the Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS lens and the Sony FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS lens. It is not compatible with any other lenses, and would not be compatible for use with the Sigma 105mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens for Sony E.

Asked by: Manny
I am using one on the 100-400 and I like it. My idol Mark Smith uses one on his 600f4 prime with his A1 body. If it's good enough for Mark, it's good enough for me. I worried about loss of resolution but for an amateur it is fine. All my glass is sony with a A9.
