Teac PD-301-B overview

  • 1Description

Enjoy your favorite CDs through the sound system of your choosing with the black Teac PD-301 CD Player with FM Tuner. It has a slot-loading design that will accept your CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs, even if they're loaded with MP3 and WMA files. The CD player also has a USB port that supports playback of MP3, WMA, WAV, and AAC files. For your convenience the PD-301 includes a remote control and a built-in FM tuner. The tuner supports up to 20 presets to quickly find your favorite stations.

Slot-Loading CD Drive for Quick Loading and Automatic Playback
The CD drive utilizes a compact slot-loading CD drive mechanism that loads quickly for nearly instant playback. The automatic playback function, which automatically starts playback after a CD is loaded, allows you to enjoy music soon after inserting the CD into the slot.
Supports Playback of MP3, WMA, AAC, and WAV Files
MP3 and WMA files can be played back from the USB port and CD-R/CD-RW discs, and WAV and AAC files can be played back from USB flash drives. The song name and artist can be shown on the unit's display during playback of MP3, WMA, and AAC files if the files have ID3 tags.
Digital-to-Analog Audio Converters
A Burr-Brown PCM5142 D/A converter, made by Texas Instruments, is used to convert the digital audio signals read from CDs and USB flash drives to analog.
Coaxial and Optical Digital Outputs
In addition to analog outputs, coaxial and optical S/PDIF outputs are included for digital connectivity. Plug the output into a component with a S/PDIF digital input for lossless digital playback. Plug in a D/A converter with even higher precision to upgrade your CD playback's audio quality. Even the FM radio tuner can be output as S/PDIF digital signal. The digital output will be 44.1 kHz/16-bit regardless of the playback format and source.
Aluminum Body with a Compact Footprint
The all-metal chassis provides a solid body with enhanced vibration control, minimizing the effect of vibrations on audio quality. The body, which has been restricted to a width of 8.5", simplifies placement.
Included Wireless Remote Control
The included remote control includes a number pad that is convenient for selecting tracks as well as controlling the basic functions of the PD-301.

    Teac PD-301-B reviews

PD-301 CD Player with FM Tuner (Black) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid build quality, clear sound, and good features. This unit offers an excellent combination of features for the money. The CD player, FM tuner and Bluetooth streaming all work smoothly, producing clear sound with solid base. It probably helps to use efficient speakers. Build quality appears to be very good, with a very sturdy metal case. This unit is especially useful if you have limited space for equipment. The only thing that would substantially improve the unit would be capability to play SACD recordings.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good sounding but quirky mechanics OK so let's get the bad stuff out of the way first. It takes forever to read a cd before you can do anything even just rejecting it is subject first to the machine doing it's tedious reading when all you want to do is just get it out and put a new one in. You also can't begin to play until it's finished the reading process which is rather slow for a modern machine. Don't know why it needs to do that when all you want to do is eject is beyond me but that is how it is. Getting a cd in the machine can also be frustrating as when you push the cd in if you get the angle slightly wrong it won't grab it and you then must take it out a try again. It will get better after some tries but it is a little finicky about it. Sound wise it is pretty good after a few weeks now of breaking in. It was a little rough when i first played some cd's but has settled in since then. No it doesn't sound as good as my separate Meridian Dac and Counterpoint transport but the price I paid for those would be 10 times in today's dollars then you would have to pay for this machine. Better parts usually do equal better sound. I bought this for a second system and the compact size along with the tuner was just what I needed. Funny how at first I thought the tuner was a really stupid idea and then that was the machine I ended up buying because of the tuner and the petite size. I gave it three stars because in the world today this would not be better then what is currently available in the ultimate and more expensive sense but for the price it is a pretty satisfying player.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple, sounds great, easy set up and operation After doing research trying to find a CD + FM receiver that was compact and offered good performance I realize that this is pretty much your only option! Thankfully, it is a good one. Sounds great...with the right speaker. One CD at a time. Easy set up with bluetooth. Absolutely love it. Oh and so compact.
