Profoto 101220 Overview

  • 1Description

Transporting a hard beauty dish has always been a problem, with its cumbersome case and tendency to dent. Now however, you can use a collapsible, 24" OCF Beauty Dish from Profoto that takes up no more space than a folded umbrella. Light bounces off the included deflector and is directed outwards to edge of the beauty dish. Setup is a snap, literally. Just use the previously introduced, separately purchased OCF speed ring which accepts the rods before they are tensioned, then snap them into place for use. The beauty dish comes with a front diffuser for an even softer look as well as a carry bag. The dish is recommended for use only with Profoto heads that have an LED modeling lamp.

  • Creates a classic beauty light

  • Patent-pending design for fast and easy setup

    Profoto 101220 Reviews

OCF Beauty Dish (White, 24-) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 45.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Shapes great light, but bad engineered, replacement denied:( Easy to set up, incredible light, but the supposed to be sturdy magnesium-alloy Speedring broke out a piece on first disassembly. I read in reviews that other customers had similar experiences, so I was extremely careful disassembling it, but first dish rod still snapped out under tension breaking the alloy Speedring case. B&H denied replacement arguing part wasn't in mint condition anymore, so the entire purchase Dish & Speedring was a waste and is useless now. Profoto products are expensive. Profoto should at least cover engineering mistakes and redesign the $99 Speedring to be sturdy. I would have expected better customer service. I will think twice no buying their expensive products and then be on my own with the damage/loss.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Light As a professional photographer I'm asked for several different light qualities to match my client's needs. While I was used to using a large soft box (five foot Ocotobox) I recently picked up this portable beauty dish for client wishing for a more contrasty light. I shoot with this light very close to the subject's face and it does a fantastic job, with great transitional shadows. I also like that it's portable so I can break it down when I'm packing up my location gear. Fair price compared to other ProFoto gear - works great!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor build, could get the same thing for $80 Per usual with profoto, it's over priced and not built that well, and a complete pain to set up. I really also wish it would have told you that you can't use the traditional speedring with it. So yea, on top of it being $180 some dollars , add another $100 for the over priced plastic speedring. You can get the same thing (but better) collapsible beauty dish in various sizes, from at least 5 other companies. All of which have at least some version of speedring included and you can buy one to fit your profoto. The other ones also go up like an umbrella almost. I would normally say... well ok profoto build quality is better for the money. Nope. The fabric feels very soft like that of an umbrella more then that of a soft box which you might expect. Also the tension bars can easily bend. I don't anticipate this will hold up well unless you put it together and don't take it down ever. Really disappointed and this will be going back. Even more disappointed that I paid for quick 1 day shipping because I really needed it for a shoot I was flying to. Won't work now and I lost the extra $30. I hope that B&H can do the right thing and credit that back to me in some way. It should say right in the listing that you can't use the traditional speedring with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Portable and Compact Beats a hard BD for traveling and location shooting. I have both white and silver. The difference in light quality is enough to merit owning both. The silver produces a more focused and contrasty light. Some complain that a collapsible BD can't produce a perfectly round catch light in the eyes like a traditional hard BD. I say, So what, don't you have some pixels to peep at 100%?, none of my clients ever notice nor bother to look. The OCF Beauty Dish (Silver or White) is great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb Diffuser ! I first purchased the Octagonal 2' soft box, the results were beautiful but I invested on this Beauty dish and obtained some Superb results ! The second diffuser panel really spreads light evenly providing a more soft light on skin. I got the silver because I love more contrasty and punchy images and obtained what i wanted with it. Is super easy to set up collapsible and light weight.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It is not bad but could be a lot better Even though this beauty dish is light weight I would have to say the westcot rapid dish is a better buy the setup is a lot less cumbersome and feels more sturdy. I think profoto could have done a better job for the price

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best product for portrait photographers! This is an awesome tool for on location photographers that are looking for something portable and quick to set up. The image results are also stunning! The ocf beauty dish is more than worth the money. It's also very compact so it gives more opportunity for the photograher to maneuver and set up in various locations. I myself like to be able to maximize my image options even if I'm in a tight shooting space and the profoto beaty dish allows me to do just that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Item I use the light modifier for portraits.. It's called a dish, but is a foldable 24 octobox with the disc in front of the flash.. It comes with a a white defuser fr over the front .. It takes less than 2 minutes to setup, or take down.. I like the the OCF products..

Does this work with the Phottix indra 500?
    Asked by: Gavin
No, the Profoto OCF Beauty Dish (Silver, 24"), B&H # PR101221, would not be compatible for use with the Phottix Indra500 TTL Studio Light. The Profoto OCF Beauty Dish (Silver, 24") is only compatible for use with the Profoto OCF light fixtures, which would be the Profoto B1, B1X, B2, and B10 OCF Flash Heads.

Is it possible to use the Profoto OCF Gel pack for the B2s with this beauty dish at the same time?

Yes but the filter attachment will narrow the light spread. Don't think this will change the quality of light however.

Has anyone used the profoto ocf beauty dish on a Profoto D1? (I know its not advised...but Im wondering if its fits and fine to use). Thanks
    Asked by: Lianne M.
It fits. Don't do it. If you damage the unit on a D1 then you're out a Beauty dish.

Would a speedlite adapter fit on to this dish?? If so which one?? Impact?? B&H # IMSRSHOED MFR # SR-SHOE-D or the shoemount speedlite adapter sold with the Impact folding beauty dish??
    Asked by: Robert
Not sure, but it's so new I would say no. It's not the standard profoto speed ring but instead a more shallow plastic one. Hope that helps, sorry if it doesn't
