Rokinon Xeen 35mm T1.5 Overview

Rokinon's Xeen 35mm T1.5 Lens for Sony E-Mount is built specifically for use as a cinema lens. It features an internal focus design so that the lens does not change size while focusing, minimizing the appearance of breathing when changing focus. Each lens in the set is multi-coated for good contrast, glare prevention, and color match to a factory standard, allowing you to assemble a set over time with minimal color shift. This 35mm lens provides what is considered a somewhat wide angle of view on full-frame cameras, and a tighter angle of view on smaller formats.

The lens features dual-sided focus scales marked in feet, with dual-sided iris scales. The 11-bladed iris provides a rounded aperture for natural looking highlights and bokeh. The lens is a manual focus and iris lens, and does not have auto focus or auto iris capability. It incorporates cinema-style focus and iris gears that share the same position across the lenses in the Xeen set. The common 114mm front diameter allows for quick lens changes when using a matte box and focus accessories. The focus ring rotates 200° from close focus to infinity. This gives you a high degree of precision when adjusting focus.

This 35mm lens has an image circle that covers a full-frame sensor. When mounted on a camera with a full-frame sensor it provides you with what is considered a slightly wide angle of view.
The lens features metal construction to withstand the rigors of daily production.
Dual right and left side focus and t-stop scales allow your focus puller to work from either side of the lens, without having to flip the lens in the mount, or facing upside numerals.
Each lens in the XEEN series share common focus and iris gear ring positions, which speeds up lens changes as accessories such as follow focus units or iris motors don't have to be re-positioned.
The common 114mm front diameter allows for quick lens changes as you don't have to swap out anti-reflection donuts or adapters to use the same matte box.
The non-rotating front allows you to use optional clip-on matte boxes.
Clickless aperture ring for smooth iris pulls.
A minimum focusing distance of 13" allows you to get up close to your subject.

Amazingly well built. The look is fantastic and the results even better. I love this 35mm.

Poorly made, bad warranty

I bought this lens as part of a set. While this lens does give some good images for the money, it's useless when the focus ring doesn't work. Ive had this set for less than 2 years. There is something loose inside the 35mm lens that rattles if you move it at all and the focus ring rotates but doesn't turn the elements. I contacted customer service and they said that it wouldn't be covered under warranty. There is not a mark on the lens, it's in pristine condition. One of the other lenses in the set also has something rattling in it but it still works as it should for now. Completely disappointed. Don't buy unless you are able to repair yourself because obviously you'll need to do that if this is the way they treat their customers.

I bought this lens to use with my BMPCC 4K and a matte box. I have now the 24mm, 35mm and the 85mm. They make it easier to use the matte box. The 35mm lens is sharp and captures beautiful images. It's a little heavier than I have expected, but it's great optically and ergonomically.

Pairs well with the Sony FS7

I needed a nice set of prime lenses for recording interviews with my Sony FS7 M2. I normally use Canon EF mount lenses with an a adapter. I have found that Rokinon lenses with EF mounts seem to have a lot of movement at the adapter. I decided to try the XEEN lens with the Sony E mount and it mounts to the Sony FS7 really well. The mount is solid. Both the iris control and focus rings are smooth and exact. I purchased this 35mm along with an 85mm for close ups.

Good work horse

35mm is a great focal length for slow-motion BTS or medium shot interviews. I rarely use lenses like this wide open as almost every lens in the price point has issues. Shoot at 2.8 and you'll be quite happy with the results. Shooting on Komodo 6K with wooden camera PL mount.

Spectacular lens

Spectacular lens for the price. I also use the 50mm and pair them with a c200 and c100. Images are identical, color is clean, and they are sharp, even wide open. The throw in my opinion is the perfect distance. Would highly recommend getting these lenses, they look professional and give you a very high quality image.
