Perfect and Refine Brushes permit simplified control over how masks are created, and a black and white masking concept affords an easy means for tweaking the mask's shape after it has been created. Designed to fit within an existing post-production workflow, Effects 10 can be used as a standalone application or as a plug-in with Adobe and Apple applications, and a wide range of file types are supported along with various color spaces for exporting directly to print.

A range of masking tools are available, including the edge-detecting Perfect Brush, for making precise filter layer masks and selections.
Opacity and blending options are available when working with individual filters or stacks of multiple filters.
A black and white mask concept offers a simple way to paint in masks and make selections: paint with black to hide elements or paint with white to revel elements.
The Perfect Brush uses edge detection to make precise selections that cling to your subject.
A Refine Brush can be used to select difficult organically-shaped subjects, such as hair, smoke, and fog.
The straight-edged Line Mask tool is ideal for selecting geometric shapes, such as buildings, windows, or other subjects with hard, straight lines.
A Masking Bug produces flexible and editable rectangular or round gradient masks.
A series of mask cleanup tools, like Mask Blur and Mask Chisel, are ideal for refining the edges of a selection and producing more realistic blending results.

Quick Mask lets you brush over an area in order to automatically generate a free-form mask.
Perfect Brush lets you quickly brush over an area to create a mask, however also incorporates edge-detection for cleaner masks.
Refine Brush can be used to clean the edges of a mask for a more precise selection.
Chisel allows you to remove halos or fringes along the edge of masks.
Blur softens the transition between a mask and the image's background for a more natural appearance.
Adjustment Brushes can be used to paint in certain adjustments, such as lightening or darkening, increased detail, vibrance, and glow.
Adjustable Gradients can be selectively applied to images to affect only a certain region.
Export and File Handling
During the export process, photos can be cropped and resized using the Genuine Fractals algorithm for maintained quality. Sharpening can also be applied to benefit both print and screen viewing means.
Both 8- and 16-bit TIFF, JPG, PNG, raw files from more than 250 camera types, and layered PSD/PSB files, including those with layer masks, can be imported. Files can be exported in the TIFF, JPG, PNG, or PSD formats.
Allowing you to revisit and re-edit photographs that have previously been saved and closed, the Smart Photo feature keeps all of an image's editing steps saved to permit fine-tuning of adjustments at a later date.
Image files can be converted to different color spaces for various printing or export applications.
Batch renaming of files is possible.
Gallery wrap wings can be added for canvas printing applications and imagery can be divided into multiple tiles for printing as a mosaic or mural.
Watermarks can be added to files, including logos.
