    Moultrie WCT-00126 reviews

Wingscapes TimelapseCam Pro Digital Camera is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from If you are going to use it with a WiFi SD Card... I purchased it directly from Moultrie because of October B&H holidays. It was defective, time lapses always stopped during the setting time of work. They sent me a new one after return and check. First of all, very important. This camera lens has a horizontal field of view (H FOV) of 40 degrees, something like a 50mm lens (Nikon FX format). It is far away a wide angle lens. This camera is expected to take pictures for a long time. How can you check and download images during the process? A WiFi SD card is a must. They are not that easy to configure but once you get it, you are done. I have purchased a Toshiba FlashAir W3 32Gb card. I've made several tests with it in different configurations and inserted in different devices: other camera, computers. My configuration is set to send each new file under /DCIM folder to a ftp server using a mobile internet connection. It OCCASIONALLY works. My conclusion is that this card (I don't know others) needs more power than supplied to work properly. This camera has an option in its settings to check if you are using a WiFi card or not. This is to save energy to extend batteries life. You also have an option to select external power or internal batteries. Using 8 fresh batteries of the recommended brand first images are sent to ftp server. Then it stops, no more transfers. Supplying energy from a AC->DC adapter seems to be enough and images are FREQUENTLY transmitted. Same as inserted into other cameras or computers. I used a Nikon D600 with this card to make timelapses and ALWAYS ALL images were transmitted. I also have a Moultrie battery with solar panel, not enough power also, I guess. A way to reset the camera Moultrie people told me, is to remove the batteries, power and card. Then left the camera turned on for a couple of minutes. Turn off, put batteries again and in Setup mode select (left arrow) Set Default values (actually, they said immediately restet the date. Resetting all was the only way I found to do that, but sometimes the date is not reset!). Sometimes this procedure (without resetting to defaults) works to get images transmitted. I performed that just now and with solar batteries file transfer is working. We'll see how long it last. People at Moultries say they manufacture cameras, they have nothing to do with WiFi cards; nice way to stay off topic. In other vein you have near decent 20MP images to make your timelapse. It takes a couple of seconds to make it in Adobe Premiere, 4K+, and you also have the isolated images. There's no Manual Mode for exposure. The main problem with auto exposure is that it is not always the same (despite the light is) so you see image property variations when the real scene hasn't changed. If you make timelapses with a DSLR in manual mode you'll understand what I mean: blue skies are always the same with natural variations over the time. I also recommend to let some time, 5 seconds, between switch changes(Off, Setup, Preview, On) And do not go directly from Setup or Preview to On position. First go to OFF, wait 5 seconds and then go to ON. It would be nice if shorter intervals, less than 10 seconds, were available. I couldn't test weather proof yet, dust, water, mix of both.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for close range and time lapse I have used game cameras before but have never tried a bird/close up camera like this. I found this to be a fun camera and useful tool to have. I got it to capture time lapse images of my plants and my farm. My goal is to do a time lapse video of my plumeria trees next spring when they come out of dormancy and start growing. The camera is really easy to set up and use. The hardest part is getting the focus set for the right distance of your target. They provide you with a measuring tape which comes in handy for this but I still had to do a few test shots to make sure the focus was correct. Even though Wingscapes gives you software for the time lapse video, I did not download it. I just used Microsoft Movie Maker instead to create the time lapse. There are also tons of cell phone applications that can do this. I am very happy with the purchase, it is exactly what I hoped it would be. Check out the attached video for more regarding how it works. I hope this review helped.
