Focusing is fast and quiet thanks to the integration of a Supersonic Direct-Drive Motor and the lens has a Quick-Shift feature for fast switching between auto and manual focusing. The lens also focuses as close as 1.64' and it has a 9-blade rounded aperture diaphragm for smooth out-of-focus elements. Additionally, it is dust- and water-resistant with eight seals to protect from intrusion.

Covering wide-angle to medium telephoto perspectives, this versatile 28-105mm zoom offers a convenient option for full-frame K-mount Pentax DSLRs and is also compatible with APS-C models, where it will provide a 43-161mm equivalent focal length range.
Variable f/3.5-5.6 maximum aperture ensures a compact size while offering a wide range of versatile focal lengths.
ED glass elements are featured in the lens design and help to control chromatic aberrations and reduce color fringing for increased clarity and color fidelity.
The High Definition (HD) multi-layer coating is utilized to reduce reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color in more trying lighting conditions.
Super Protect coating will help keep the optics safe in the event of accidental impact or if it comes in contact with water or dust.
Supersonic Direct-Drive Motor (SDM) ensures fast, quiet, and smoother autofocus operation.
A rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing shallow depth of field techniques. It is completely rounded between f/3.5-6.3 when at 28mm and between f/5.6-10 when at 105mm.
A weather-resistant design features eight seals which better permit working in inclement conditions.

One of the best Pentax lenses for the money.

My main lens for k-1

I am very happy with this lens. I use it as a walk-around and when I have to work fast (e.g. photographing events). The image quality overall is really good; getting close to what I get with primes. The colors, contrast and lack of flare are particularly good. Sharpness is high at the wide end and, and very good at the tele end. The lens is a bit large and heavy, and the zoom is stiff (but definitely does not creep). The AF works great and is nearly silent. The bokeh is pretty. It's water resistant and solid (no wobble whatsoever). It's a steal at $500.

Exceptional quality for a lens of this class!

I prefer high-quality primes lenses for most of my work but there are good reasons to keep a zoom lens such as this around. Of all the zoom lenses I’ve used with similar ranges (some priced several times higher that this one) , this lens really stands out and impresses me. It exceeded my expectations based on its specifications and price. Highly recommended!

It's so-so

I bought this lens to photograph classic cars, but after shooting more than two dozens cars with it, sorry to say I'm not impressed. The images are not pin-sharp, in fact, all too often they are slightly soft. Yet some shots come out very clear; although not clear enough to make them large for reproduction in a magazine. I truly wish I didn't buy it.

So much better than anticipated

I was somewhat hesitant on this lens when I bought it. For the price, I was expecting kit quality. Instead, this lens has become glued to my K1 when I don't have my UWA lenses attached. The pictures from this camera are tack sharp. The lens focuses quickly, quietly, and effectively. I haven't found any issues with the aperture for my use cases, and the lens balances well on my K1. Portraits are very good, and there have been several cases where I COULD have popped this off and thrown on my 43 or 77, but was totally happy to shoot with this and know that it would give me high quality. I enjoy pixel peeping, and haven't noticed anything on my lens copy that would cause lament, even when compared to my high resolution primes. For the price, this is an absolute no brainer; the only hesitation would be regarding the 24-70. Likely this lens would not be required if you had that kit, although it is a bit lighter.

Not a great lens.

Got this lens as a Kit lens with my K1 Mark II, I have to say, its not that great. Everything comes out soft. I would love to return it but since its part of a kit, I cant without returning the entire package.

Lens punches way above its weight/price

This is a fine lens, and really a no-brainer for Pentax FF users at its price point. I don't use it so much anymore because I got great deals here at B&H on the 24-70 and the 15-30, but really this lens is handier and so much lighter/smaller than the 24-70, and equally sharp or sharper. The extra reach is especially useful. Great walk around lens, and it's WR. That it's slower mostly isn't a problem on the Pentax cameras with their excellent high iso performance.

Great Wide to Short Telephoto Angle Lens

I have a Pentax K-1ii and this lens works quite well with that camera. I've only had it for a week or so, but so far, the pictures look good and sharp. As for working with the K-1ii, this lens is a great primary lens. I'll make another review after I take a few more pictures.
